Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer (Thermal Analysis). In this role you will be supporting the Orion thermal analysis team performing preliminary and detailed level analysis on spacecraft components and subsystems (Avionics, Propulsion, etc.), as well as performing comprehensive modeling on the entire spacecraft thermal system using standardized processes and tools (Thermal Desktop, SINDA/Fluint). Other related responsibilities include providing technical memos and input to data packages to support peer and customer reviews; presenting resultant design and analysis data to the spacecraft design/engineering team, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical exchange meetings and formal design reviews; providing review, interpretation, flow down and implementation of all program requirements; providing thermal engineering planning and support for multi-week Thermal Cycle or TVAC and On-Orbit flight data; working interactively with diverse engineering disciplines in a fast-paced environment to develop cost-effective solutions to thermal control requirements which also satisfy producibility objectives defined by Manufacturing and Quality. The employee must develop solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity, and work without appreciable direction and exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignment.
Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
Thorough knowledge of heat transfer and thermodynamics, particularly related to space applications.
Experience with spacecraft design, verification, and development.
Experience with Creo Parametric or Creo View, and AutoCAD (Thermal Desktop graphical interface) on a Microsoft Windows Platform.
Creativity/innovation to solve issues related to anomalous performance of any aspect of the spacecraft thermal system.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Excellent communications skills (technical writing and presentation), dedication to Mission Success.
Experience with test planning and execution.
Desired Skills:Strong analytical skills related to design and analysis of spacecraft thermal control subsystems.
Familiarity first-order heat transfer hand calculations.
Proficiency with Thermal Desktop, SINDA/Fluint.
Possess engineering and operational experience with spacecraft thermal control subsystem hardware and software.
Experience with testing thermal hardware in complex systems, both planning and execution. If a candidate doe not currently have these skills, they should have the appropriate background and aptitude for developing these skills.
Direct experience with thermal hardware such as MLI blankets, temperature sensors, heaters, etc.
Ability and willingness to perform technical tasks with limited budget and support 24/7 activities (Thermal Cycle and TVAC testing and launch support) during non-standard shifts, requiring occasional extended hours.
Proficient in Python.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
