Company Description
At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.
Job Description
This role will be based in New York, Sunnyvale, or San Francisco.
LinkedIn’s Consumer Experience team is responsible for the core feed experience—the front door to LinkedIn—for over 1 billion members. Our mission is to ensure members’ time on LinkedIn is consistently productive, informative, and well-spent.
We own both the architecture of the feed and the content ecosystem that powers it—including video, news, conversations, and more. Our work shapes how members discover, connect, and engage within LinkedIn. The work is complex, high-visibility, and a strategic priority for the company.
As a Staff Product Designer on the Feed team, you will play a critical role in defining the long-term evolution of LinkedIn’s Feed experience. You’ll lead design for high-impact, ambiguous problem spaces, raise the bar on craft and systems thinking, and help modernize a core product surface that touches every member, every day.
This role is ideal for a designer who thrives at scale—someone who can balance vision and execution, influence across teams, and bring bold, strategic design thinking to a historically mature but evolving product area.
Responsibilities:
- Own and shape major areas of the Feed experience, driving end-to-end design from early strategy and problem framing through execution and iteration.
- Define and evolve the design vision for key Feed surfaces, aligning near-term execution with longer-term platform and experience strategy.
- Explore, prototype, and validate new interaction models, formats, and engagement mechanics that modernize how content is experienced at scale.
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, and Content Design to influence roadmaps, align on tradeoffs, and drive high-quality outcomes across teams.
- Use qualitative insights, experimentation, and data to inform decisions and continuously refine the experience post-launch.
- Set and uphold a high bar for design craft, including visual design, interaction quality, motion, and systems coherence across the Feed ecosystem.
- Communicate complex design ideas clearly to senior leadership, articulating vision, rationale, and tradeoffs with confidence.
- Act as a design multiplier, mentoring designers, offering thoughtful critique, and helping elevate design quality beyond your immediate scope.
- Advocate for inclusive, accessible design principles and ensure solutions scale across diverse member needs and global contexts.
- To be considered for this position, you must include your portfolio, website or other samples of work demonstrating design expertise
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in graphic design, design communication, human-computer interaction, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 8+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating leadership on complex, high-impact consumer products.
- Proven ability to lead design in ambiguous problem spaces, setting direction and driving alignment across multiple partners or teams.
- Background in interaction and visual design expertise, with a refined sense of typography, layout, hierarchy, and motion.
- Deep UX fundamentals, including information architecture, system-level thinking, and designing for engagement and retention at scale.
- Fluency in Figma and modern prototyping workflows, with the ability to move between low- and high-fidelity as needed.
- Data-informed mindset, comfortable partnering with research and analytics to shape hypotheses, evaluate outcomes, and iterate.
- Experience in communication and storytelling skills, including experience presenting to senior leaders and influencing without authority.
- Experience contributing to or shaping design systems while maintaining flexibility for innovation and evolution.
- Experience understanding accessibility standards and inclusive design best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing feeds, discovery, or recommendation-driven experiences, including an understanding of personalization and ranking dynamics.
- Familiarity with AI- or algorithmically-driven products, with a thoughtful, judgment-driven approach to applying emerging technologies.
- Experience leading medium-to-large initiatives that span multiple teams or product areas.
- Comfort collaborating with engineering on technically complex systems; familiarity with front-end concepts is a plus.
- Experience using motion design or microinteractions to meaningfully enhance content experiences.
- Track record of improving product quality and coherence across an ecosystem, not just within a single feature area.
Suggested Skills:
- Product Thinking
- Visual Design
- Interaction Design
- Storytelling
- Leadership
