Key Job Responsibilities
- Welds load path components in flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions.
- Needs to be able to Tig weld, Mig, Stick and braze on aluminum, copper, steel, etc.
- Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits.
- Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, and grinds load path component parts.
- Detects faulty operation of equipment and defective materials; notifies supervisors.
- Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments.
- Monitors the fitting burning and welding process to avoid overheating of parts, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
- Examines work pieces for defects and measures material with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
- Operates safety equipment
Qualifications/Requirements
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or three years related experience and/or training required; or equivalent combination.
Reading blueprints and drawings and taking measurements to plan layout and procedures.
Setting up components for welding according to specifications.
