Job Description
We’re looking for a Broadcast Engineer who thrives at the intersection of broadcast and IT — someone who understands that in 2025, reliability means software-defined signal flow, IP networks, and an engineer’s intuition for when something “just doesn’t look right.”
As a Production Reliability Engineer, you’ll help ensure the continuous operation of our live production, routing, and playout systems across both baseband and SMPTE 2110 IP environments. You’ll be part of the team that designs, maintains, and evolves complex infrastructure supporting 24/7 broadcast operations for NBC.
- Support and optimize SMPTE 2110 environments, primarily Evertz EXE and Magnum routing systems.
- Maintain and integrate legacy and hybrid infrastructures, including Grass Valley NV9000 routers.
- Collaborate with teams managing production systems like Cisco ACI networks, DNF control systems, EVS Playback systems, Vizrt and Chyron/XPression graphics, RTS, Ross Robotics, Calrec Artemis audio consoles, and Sony switchers and cameras.
- Diagnose and reverse-engineer complex system interactions — both hardware and software — to improve reliability and performance.
- Create and update signal flow and network documentation using Lucidchart and CAD for wiring drawings.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on observability, system redundancy, and workflow automation.
- Act as support escalation contact for emergencies and troubleshooting.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of recent experience in a television broadcast environment.
- Understanding of the 24/7 nature of the on-air News, Sports, and Entertainment environments.
- Experience with Evertz SMPTE 2110 Magnum Routers, IP routing concepts, multicast, and PTP.
- Working knowledge of broadcast-adjacent systems (audio, control, graphics, replay).
- Working knowledge of Cisco ACI networking fundamentals
- Detail-oriented, organized, and naturally curious — you enjoy figuring out how things work.
- Strong documentation habits and clear communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to learn new production technologies.
- Willingness to work shifts/overtime including weekends, overnights and on holidays with short notice.
- Must be able to work independently yet have strong collaboration skills and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to prioritize and be a pro-active thinker.
- Ability to stay focused and productive in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing assignments.
- This position requires some work performed under stressful situations.
Qualifications
- Working familiarity with TV engineering and broadcast video/audio transmission systems.
- Proficient with broadcast production systems and software including SMPTE standards, Evertz Products, Calrec Audio Consoles, Intercom Systems, Video Switchers, and others.
- Experience with Miranda/Grass Valley Legacy routers and systems like the NV9000 and KX.
- Solid understanding of computer networking.
- Proficient in software-driven broadcast video equipment.
- Dante Certified
- ACI Certified
