Raytheon is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) team. NASAMS is a state-of-the-art air defense system that protects critical assets and population centers from aerial threats by integrating advanced radar, command and control, and missile systems. As a member of this team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, testing, and delivering software that supports the full NASAMS system effectivity chain, including Detect, Decide, Engage, and Destroy functionalities.
This position is based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, where the NASAMS software team works collaboratively to ensure mission success. By leveraging Agile and DevSecOps principles, we deliver high-quality, high-frequency software deployments to support the evolving needs of our customers.
What You Will Do
As part of the NASAMS team, you will work on an agile team responsible for developing and delivering software that supports the mission-critical capabilities of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS).
Specific responsibilities include:

Collaborate with team members to design, develop, test, and deliver real-time application software and tools that enable the NASAMS system effectivity chain, including Detect, Decide, Engage, and Destroy functionalities.

Assist in the requirements, design, development, and testing of software systems that support critical functions such astarget acquisition, threat evaluation, missile firing, and terminal guidance.

Develop, maintain, and deploy large-scale, complex software solutions for NASAMS in an agile environment, adhering to DevSecOps principles to ensure secure, high-quality, and high-frequency software deliveries.

Participate in internal reviews of NASAMS software components and systems to ensure they meet the highest quality standards and align with program requirements.

Contribute to the creation and maintenance of testing frameworks and best practices to enable efficient software validation and delivery using Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) concepts.

Analyze and solve problems within defined scope, schedule, and expectations while adhering to established development practices and processes.

Work closely with systems engineers and other team members to ensure the seamless integration of software with NASAMS hardware and other systems.
Your contributions will directly enhance the NASAMS system's ability to provide advanced air defense capabilities, protecting critical assets and infrastructure worldwide.

Key Contributions to NASAMS - as part of the NASAMS program, you will contribute to the following areas:

Detect: Develop software solutions for target acquisition and verification, integrated IFF (Identification Friend or Foe), and target tracking updates.

Decide: Implement software to support Single Integrated Air Picture, threat evaluation, system recommendations, Firing Doctrine (FIDOC), and launcher assignments for effective multi-missile handling.

Engage: Design algorithms for azimuth slew and lead angle calculations, prelaunch targeting data transfer, missile firing, in-flight updates, and mission abort capabilities.

Destroy: Support software development for motor ignition, inertial guidance, targeting data extrapolation, seeker search, target lock-on, terminal guidance, and proximity/contact fuzing.
Your work will directly enhance the NASAMS system’s ability to protect critical infrastructure and ensure mission success for our customers.
Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.

Experience in software development using modern programming languages (e.g., C++, Jaa).

Experience with Agile and DevSecOps methodologies and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Jenkins).

Ability to obtain U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required after start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer

Experience with radar systems, command and control (C2) systems, or missile systems.

Knowledge of real-time, safety-critical systems.

Familiarity with software development tools such as Git, Jenkins, and Docker.

Understanding of networking protocols and data communications.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
