Role Definition
To work in the MaK Middle East FZCO workshop in Dubai, UAE. Perform service, maintenance, overhauling, and service on MaK medium speed marine engine components in a safe manner independently. This repair work requires broad mechanical skills, basic diagnostic capabilities, and an understanding of workshop machinery, machining, tooling, equipment, and medium speed marine engines. Also required to go onboard vessels and perform engine component servicing as and when required.
What You Will Do:
- Performs servicing, overhauling, and repair of MaK medium speed engine components which includes machining of cylinder head valve stems, valve seat inserts, oversize valve seat pockets, valve guides, cylinder liner honing, diamond lapping, fuel injection pumps, injectors, pumps, pistons, connecting rods, turbochargers etc.
- Able to perform precision in-place machining on engines in the field such as liner top and bottom landing surface machining in cylinder block.
- Able to safely operate various workshop equipment such as lathe, milling, cutting, grinding, honing, lapping, heating, welding, lifting, and hoisting etc.
- Performs precision measuring and calibration of engine parts and components to a high degree of accuracy using micrometers, dial indicators, gauges, Vernier gauges, feeler gauges etc.
- Able to prepare workshop calibration and service reports.
- Able to machine, lap, grind parts and components and to custom fabricate steel items to high standards and tolerances.
- Performs inspection, testing and analysis of various engine components and parts to determine condition. Able to use crack testing equipment.
- Performs basic replacement of parts and assemblies without supervision.
- Reassembles engine components and carries out required quality assurance testing.
- Follows defined workshop workflow processes.
- Performs work from service manuals, maintenance manuals, technical information and equipment schematics.
- Performs failure analysis and troubleshooting and applying own experience and good judgement.
- Be able to operate all workshop equipment safely for intended purpose.
- Communicates verbally in an effective manner with technical staff, other employees and vendors.
- Use basic soldering and brazing skills as needed.
What You Will Have:
5S Housekeeping: Knowledge of 5S Housekeeping concepts; ability to design, implement and sustain 5S housekeeping strategies to ensure standardization of workplace operations.
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Service Excellence: Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.
Mechanical/Machinery: Knowledge of machines and tools; ability to use knowledge of machinery or mechanical objects including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application, or operation.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM): Knowledge of total productive maintenance principles, methods, and processes; ability to maximize machinery effectiveness through active involvement of all supporting departments.
Top Candidates Also Have: (Qualification)
- 8-years of experience in similar marine or similar large medium speed engine component workshop servicing and repair, machining, or equivalent experience or schooling
- Needs to demonstrate good mechanical comprehension and strong communication skills with technical staff, customers and fellow employees.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
