The Comcast Cloud Technologies team is in search of an experienced Level 3 OpenStack Administrator to oversee, optimize, and troubleshoot our large-scale private cloud platform. The candidate will act as the technical SME, handle high-severity incidents, and contribute to continuous improvements in stability, automation, and performance.
Job Description:
The candidate will be instrumental in the migration, upgrade, design, implementation, and ongoing management of our OpenStack infrastructure, ensuring it remains highly available, scalable, and performant. We seek an individual with substantial experience in Linux system administration and a strong command of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies, utilizing tools such as Ansible, Git, Terraform, Kubernetes Operators, and Python. A solid understanding of operational best practices and familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and Fishymetrics is essential, along with a comprehensive grasp of storage, network services, architecture, distributed systems, networking protocols, and virtualization. Experience with RedHat OpenStack and Ceph storage technologies is preferred, and knowledge of cybersecurity will be considered an advantage. As part of our Operations team, the candidate should be prepared to assist with migration and maintenance tasks outside of regular business hours and participate in an on-call rotation.
The team will function at CIEC, Chennai and will be required to work from office as per Comcast policy.
Core Responsibilities – OpenStack Engineer (Level 3)
- Plan, design, test, and execute migration from legacy hardware platforms to OpenStack-based infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and seamless service continuity.
- Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot OpenStack components and underlying hardware to maintain high availability, performance, capacity, and platform security.
- Collaborate closely with network, storage, and platform engineering teams to ensure efficient integration, streamlined operations, and optimized performance across all OpenStack services.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute OpenStack upgrades to the latest stable releases, performing rolling upgrades, validating component compatibility, executing regression testing, and carrying out post-upgrade tuning to ensure optimal platform stability, performance, and reliability.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging cloud technologies, and OpenStack ecosystem advancements, applying best practices to continuously improve the platform.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using automation frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform, and Git, ensuring reliable, repeatable, and scalable deployments.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including architecture diagrams, configuration guides, SOPs, troubleshooting procedures, and operational runbooks for internal knowledge sharing.
- Gather, interpret, and anticipate customer requirements, translating them into scalable technical solutions aligned with best practices and proven engineering methodologies.
- Solve complex technical issues by applying broad platform knowledge to identify root causes and develop innovative, automation-driven solutions.
- Provide expert guidance to ensure performance, reliability, and availability across cross-platform services and applications hosted on OpenStack.
- Lead incident recovery efforts to restore services promptly, conduct post-incident reviews, and contribute to preventive measures to avoid recurring failures.
- Exercise strong independent judgment in making technical decisions of significance that impact operational stability and customer experience.
- Maintain consistent, reliable availability, including readiness to work in a 24/7 operational environment with rotational shifts and on-call responsibilities as required (subject to change).
Minimum Requirements:
- 4-6 years designing, building, and operating OpenStack environments supporting high availability (99.99% availability), low latency enterprise applications
- 3+ years proficiency in automation and DevOps tools such as Ansible, AWX, Terraform, GitHub
- 3+ years proficiency with IP Networks and networking design and operations
- 3+ years hands on experience with server hardware deployments, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- 3+ years of strong Linux administration skills
Good to Have:
- Experience engineering and/or operating SAN or CEPH storage systems
- Experience in Cybersecurity.
- Experience with administering and operating HPE/Dell hardware and firmware
- Proficiency in coding such as Python, Ansible for automation playbooks
