About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.
Job Summary
As an Industrial HVAC Maintenance Technician III, you will ensure the reliable operation, safety, and efficiency of complex commercial and industrial HVAC systems across multiple facilities. In this role, you will perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on chillers, compressors, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and other large‑scale mechanical systems. You will work independently, respond to service needs with minimal supervision, and travel between sites as required. This position is ideal for a licensed HVAC professional with strong industrial/commercial experience who thrives in hands‑on environments and takes pride in keeping critical building systems operating at peak performance.
What you will do:
- Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on industrial HVAC systems, including chillers, cooling towers, rooftop units, air handlers, and compressors
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime and maintain optimal building performance
- Inspect, maintain, and repair shell‑and‑tube and plate‑and‑frame heat exchangers
- Work independently to respond to service requests across multiple facilities with minimal disruption to operations
- Monitor and maintain HVAC control systems, ensuring proper calibration and configuration
- Conduct system testing, airflow measurements, refrigerant checks, and equipment performance evaluations
- Maintain accurate documentation including work orders, equipment logs, parts usage, and service reports
- Recommend process improvements to enhance system reliability, energy efficiency, and environmental compliance
- Work as a contributing member of the maintenance team to provide the best service and maximize uptime of the production facilities
- Complete work order processes documentation for complete work history and parts inventory tracking
- Submit and assist with the creation and resolution of Continuous Improvement Cards
- Follow all safety standards including lockout/tagout, refrigerant handling best practices, and OSHA/EPA requirements
- Work cooperatively as a team with engineering, operations, logistics, janitorial, quality, and environmental health and safety departments
What you will have:
- Active HVAC license or recognized HVAC Certification
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial/commercial HVAC systems
- Strong troubleshooting skills with chillers, compressors, cooling towers, air handlers, and large‑scale HVAC systems
- Experience working with refrigerants, recovery systems, leak detection, and EPA guidelines
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, HVAC schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Proficiency with standard HVAC tools, diagnostic instruments, gauges, and test equipment
- Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems including motors, contactors, relays, and VFDs
- Strong mechanical aptitude with pumps, bearings, belts, valves, and fluid/airflow systems
What would make you a top candidate:
- Experience servicing shell‑and‑tube or plate‑and‑frame heat exchangers
- Industrial facility maintenance experience in manufacturing, heavy equipment, or large commercial buildings
- Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS/BMS)
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to perform repetitive operations
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

Additional Information:
- 1st Shift: Monday – Thursday: 6:00AM – 4:30PM. Overtime as required.
- Local travel is required up to 60% to support facilities located in San Antonio, Schertz, & Seguin, TX.

Summary Pay Range:
$28.85 - $38.10
