Job Description
The Investigative Reporter is responsible for developing, researching, producing, and presenting compelling investigative content across broadcast, digital, and social platforms. This role requires strong enterprise reporting skills, journalistic integrity, the ability to generate sources, and to deliver accurate, fair, and impactful storytelling.
Responsibilities / Job Duties:
- Gather news information and prepare content for on-air, online, and social media presentation.
- Present completed stories that are accurate, journalistically sound, fair, and balanced.
- Utilize public records requests (including FOIA and state-level equivalents), data analysis, and document review to uncover and develop investigative stories.
- Demonstrate ability to analyze datasets, identify patterns, and translate findings into compelling, viewer-friendly content.
- Ensure investigations are adapted appropriately across platforms to maximize reach and impact.
- Work closely with digital editors to create and optimize investigative content for web, OTT, and social platforms, including long-form articles, explainers, and interactive elements.
- Ability to verify digital content, authenticate sources, and detect mis/disinformation.
- Report live during newscasts and breaking news coverage as needed, both in studio and in the field.
- Write news stories daily for station newscasts, recorded programs, and other live station broadcasts—either in studio or on location as needed.
- Collaborate with producers and news managers to develop, research, investigate, write, produce, and present consumer and investigative stories
- Coordinate, organize, conduct, and video-record interviews.
- Develop ongoing “sweeps” and “special series” stories.
- Represent NBC 10 at community-related events.
- Build and maintain relationships within the community to develop strong story leads.
Qualifications
- BA or BS in Journalism or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of five years of Investigative television reporting, writing, and live reporting experience.
- Enterprise reporting experience required.
- Experience partnering with legal team and working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws impacting operations and story production, particularly as they relate to consumer, investigative, and undercover news content.
- Must be able to provide a reel/portfolio of work examples. If available, include a web address when submitting your resume.
- Must be willing to work extended hours and varying shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays), and report to work during emergencies as news coverage requires.
- Must be willing to work in Philadelphia, PA.
