Cobol Software Development Engineer
What does a successful Cobol Software Development Engineer do at Fiserv?
A successful Cobol Software Development Engineer at Fiserv designs, develops, and maintains high-quality applications that support our business goals and client needs. You partner with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into reliable technical solutions and continuously improve existing platforms. You strengthen delivery and quality through peer reviews, mentorship, modern DevOps practices, and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.
What you will do?
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of software applications that support Fiserv business goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Perform hands-on coding, testing, and debugging to ensure strong application performance.
- Maintain and improve existing codebases and lead peer review processes to raise quality and consistency.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance, including using AI-assisted tools to accelerate development, improve documentation, and strengthen test coverage.
What you must have?
- 4+ years of software development experience.
- 2+ years of programming experience in COBOL (or VB.NET/C# in addition).
- 2+ years of experience with SQL databases and 2+ years with AWS, Azure, or GCP services.
- 2+ years of experience with CI/CD + DevOps and 2+ years working in Agile teams.
What would be nice to have?
- 2+ years of experience in the financial services industry.
- 1+ year using AI-assisted development tools to generate code, tests, or documentation while maintaining engineering standards.
- 4–7 years of equivalent combination of educational background, related experience, and/or military experience.
