Work You’ll Do
Review state and local income/franchise tax returns prepared by junior staff. Prepare state and local income/franchise tax returns. Conduct advanced tax research and draft technical memos. Supervise, mentor, and train junior team members. Manage client communications and lead calls. Develop and implement SALT planning strategies. Respond to state audit inquiries and notices. Review composite, withholding, and K-1 filings. Manage engagement workflow and delegate tasks. Review/revise tax workpapers prepared by junior staff.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Law, or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus eighteen months as Tax Senior or related occupation gaining experience preparing and reviewing tax returns, estimates, extensions, and provisions for corporations and partnerships in multistate jurisdictions.
Position requires eighteen months of experience in the following:
- providing income and franchise tax consulting, tax planning, and income tax accounting services for multistate companies;
- preparing and filing Schedules K-1, as well as withholding and composite returns for partnerships and limited liability companies, including private equity funds;
- conducting research on complex state and local tax issues using platforms such as CCH, RIA Checkpoint, and Bloomberg BNA, particularly in relation to tax law changes, regulations, and court decisions;
- utilizing tax preparation software, including Corptax, GoSystem RS, and Bloomberg BNA Interactive Forms (SuperForm), to prepare state and local tax returns for corporate and partnership clients;
- performing state and local tax compliance services, including state apportionment and modification calculations in accordance with varying state laws and regulations;
- communicating with state revenue departments on behalf of clients to resolve tax notices, audits, and other tax-related inquiries;
- drafting technical tax memoranda, client correspondence, and responses to state notices;
- mentoring and training junior team members, including reviewing workpapers and providing technical guidance; and
- coordinating with internal teams and clients to ensure timely and accurate compliance.
