About your role:
As an Accountant at Fiserv in Hagerstown, MD, you will support the accuracy and integrity of our financial records for merchant acquiring activities. You will prepare and post journal entries, complete balance sheet account reconciliations, and support the monthly close. You will work closely with finance and operational partners to ensure compliant, reliable financial information that supports informed decision-making.
What you'll do:
- Prepare and post recurring and ad hoc journal entries and batches to support daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting activity.
- Gather, review, and verify supporting documentation and financial schedules for each journal entry to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations for assigned accounts, including settlement, merchant acquiring, and other general ledger accounts.
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation variances by researching underlying transactions and working with operational partners as needed.
- Assist with the monthly close process by preparing entries, reviewing account activity, and meeting internal timelines and deadlines.
- Maintain documentation to support internal control requirements and assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Collaborate with other accounting and operational team members to improve processes, standardize procedures, and enhance data quality.
Experience you'll need to have:
- 3+ years of experience in general ledger accounting and month-end close processes in a corporate or public accounting environment.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and basic macros) to analyze and reconcile financial data.
- Experience interpreting and applying accounting principles to prepare journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or military experience.
Experience that would be great to have:
- Experience with accounting for banking, payments, or merchant acquiring activities.
- Experience preparing and maintaining documentation to support internal controls or audit requests.
- Experience using SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for journal entry posting, account inquiry, and reporting.
- Experience with balance sheet and account reconciliations and settlements.
How you'll work:
- This role is on-site Monday through Friday at our Hagerstown, MD facility. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.
- This role requires use of a computer and audio equipment.

Salary Range:
$48,000.00-$65,000.00
These pay ranges apply to employees in Maryland. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ. Certain Positions are Commissions eligible.
