Disney Hyperion is looking for a creative, dynamic, high-energy Senior Editor to join the team as a six-month project hire. Reporting to the Editorial Director, the Senior Editor will act as editorial lead on key publishing franchises, as well as manage the publication process for a selection of middle grade and young adult titles. Must have: extensive editorial experience in trade children’s book publishing, a strong commercial eye, an awareness of current pop culture trends and youth media, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and excellent author and agent-care skills.
The Senior Editor will:
Manage key Disney Hyperion franchises, authors, and a select list of titles
Work closely across departments such as design, marketing and publicity, to align on book publication strategy
If necessary, runs P&Ls, negotiate book deals, and review contracts
Draft fact sheets, catalog copy, bound galley copy, and jacket/cover copy
Present titles at internal meetings
Manage an editorial assistant
The candidate should have:
6-8 years experience in acquiring children’s fiction properties, including structural and line editing expertise, and managing books through the production process
Excellent author and illustrator care skills
Established relationships with literary agents; negotiation skills; experience in redlining contracts
Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills
Strong understanding of P&Ls
Strong knowledge of the children’s book marketplace and youth media landscape
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
Proficiency in Office suite
Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
The hiring range for this position in New York is $91,200.00-$122,300.00 The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
