Job Overview
The Occupational Health Specialist will work alongside the Occupational Nurse to support Peoria Komatsu's heath and safety initiatives. The Occupational Health Specialist assists with health education, early treatment and prevention, helping achieve zero harm goals. Responsibilities include supporting first responder programs, managing relationships with health vendors, facilitating new hire and return-to-work medical processes, documenting injuries, and maintaining confidential medical records. The Occupational Health Specialist provides prompt medical care to all employees, focusing on union staff.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Deliver professional care for emergencies, minor illnesses, or injuries, including assessment, treatment and referral Safety or HR guidance.
- Ensure all onsite medical equipment is operational and properly maintained.
- Lead or coordinate company interactions with external medical providers and suppliers.
- Operate health and safety protocols such as audiometric testing, respirator exams, wellness checks, and other wellness activities.
- Provide counseling and crisis intervention, referring employees as needed, and inform management of issues affecting performance within confidentiality limits.
- Assist with hearing conservation per OSHA, perform annual audiograms, counsel employees, and organize flue shot and blood drive programs.
- Participate in safety training as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Accredited EMT training required.
- NREMT certification and state EMS licensure (as applicable).
- Strong communication skills and experience with both emergency and chronic care.
- Current CPR and AED certifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with Worker's Compensation claims management.
- Experience with OSHA recordkeeping and maintain OSHA logs.

- Ability to remain calm in situations involving stress, deadlines, or upset employees or third parties.
- Ability to establish and manage priorities of yourself and subordinates to achieve targeted performance metrics, if applicable.
- Ability to maintain an effective and collaborative working relationship with managers, peers, subordinates, and third parties. Has a high degree of tact and diplomacy when needed.
- Ability to understand how your emotions and communications are perceived by others including managers, peers, subordinates, and third parties and modify as needed to be an effective team member.
- High level of self-motivation. Demonstrates good professional judgement, consistent with role in the organization.
- Accountability for work product.
Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $66,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
