GE Aerospace is pioneering the use of composite materials in commercial and military applications. We are seeking a skilled Lead Engineer to operate, maintain and optimize equipment used to fabricate advanced textile architectures for composite materials. Job Description
You will:
- Manage advanced textile fabrication equipment such as looms or braiding machines, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with suppliers, academia and internal teams to add new functionality to textile equipment and improve process efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal teams to design, develop and implement new textile architectures.
- Work within multidisciplinary teams to tackle complex challenges and deliver innovative solutions for aerospace applications.
- Effectively communicate research findings through presentations, technical reports and publications.
- Contribute to intellectual property development through invention disclosures and patents.
- Participate in government-funded programs, ensuring compliance with program requirements.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or Masters Degree with 3 years of experience in Textile Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining textile fabrication equipment (looms, braiding machines, knitting machines).
- Skills in process control, troubleshooting, and equipment optimization.
- Familiarity with software for textile design and simulation (TexGen, Abaqus, ANSYS)
- Passion for hands-on development and laboratory work, with a commitment to advancing materials technology.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new areas of research.
- Willing to work on government funded programs.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.Must be willing to work on-site at GE Aerospace’s office in Niskayuna, NY.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Desired Characteristics
- Skills in testing textile properties, including knowledge of industry standards and certifications for textiles and composites.
- Experience integrating 3D woven textiles into composite materials.
- Experience with statistical analysis, data analytics, and statistical process control.
- Strong track record of tackling complex technical problems and delivering innovative solutions.
- Experience in a non-academic research environment, with a focus on applied innovation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively.
The base pay range for this position is 80,000 – 150,000 USD annually . The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close April 25th, 2026
