Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Production Engineering Battery department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Production Engineer to work in the Central Project Management team.
The primary responsibility of this position is to work in a collaborative team environment in a large corporate structure supporting other Engineers, Project Management Groups, Construction Management Group, Purchasing, etc. to develop, execute, and standardize strategies to achieve project milestones for new model launch. This role will serve as primary contact point to other groups including direct coordination with Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC).
This position will be located at TBMNC in Liberty, NC and report to the Engineering Manager for Battery.
The person in this role will support the Battery department's objective to execute Capital Projects from planning thru Start of Production (SOP).
The successful candidate must be effective at identifying and removing roadblocks that hinder progress. They should be capable of identifying appropriate work priorities, developing and executing detailed schedules, and proactively reporting their status to the management group. This role requires an ability to multi-task with many groups with conflicting deadlines and priorities. Working as a team in a cross-functional environment is paramount for success.
What you’ll be doing
Coordinating new model launch activities between multiple divisions and companies (domestic and international) considering every phase of vehicle development through start of production.
Problem solving issues that have potential impact to successful project or launch execution. Leading coordination across all departments to countermeasure and apply solutions to future projects to prevent recurrence.
Defining and reporting overall project KPIs and Milestones using the Battery Master Operation Plan (OP). Defining standard reporting structure and standardized outputs for KPI and Milestone reporting. Leading project and trial cross functional meetings.
Contributing to Battery department jobway standardization by confirming reflections and feedback to Master OP, developing detailed job instruction documentation, and developing countermeasures for No Repeat.
Supporting construction activity including coordinating achievement of building preparation milestones, installation kickoffs, construction meetings, and coordinating with the Facilities projects team based on project phase and schedule.
Supporting pre-production trial activity including coordinating trial parts orders, schedule creation, and KPI setting/management based on project phase and schedule.
Supporting additional ad-hoc requests and projects which require cross functional coordination which could include items such as budget analysis, asset management, Shutdowns, and other initiatives.
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree or higher or 5+ years equivalent professional work experience in a project management related role.
Experience in a manufacturing production preparation role and schedule/deliverable management including stages of project plan, process/equipment plan, specification & procurement, installation, and trial
Experience managing projects with capital investments greater than $0.5M
Experience setting, managing, visualizing, and reporting KPIs based on project phase, including reporting directly to Senior/Executive level leadership and recommending company direction based on data analysis
Experience coordinating with varied functions in large corporate organization, including production engineering, manufacturing, research & development, or similar
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability for business travel, both domestic and international up to 10%
Ability to work weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods (such as July and December shutdown) as needed, based on project condition and schedule, overtime up to 25%
Ability to support evening meetings with Japan as needed, based on project condition and schedule
Added bonus if you have
Toyota supplier management experience
Battery or automotive manufacturing experience
Experience in application of Toyota Production System (TPS) in a manufacturing shop floor environment
Understanding and execution of Gated Management or BRAD milestones
Documented problem-solving certification or activity such as Toyota Business Practice (TBP), Fault Tree Analysis, or similar
Understanding of Toyota planning process, specifications, and product development
