Key role description: Provide Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting related to our Company's expansive R&D portfolio, Lead Financial Support for our Company's Key Portfolio Governance Bodies (HHPAC, LDRC, DTRC, Portfolio Reviews, EGTM), Develop and Maintain Approaches to Assess Overall our Company's Pipeline Productivity and ROIC, Support Moderna Collaboration.
Portfolio Management And Governance Support
- Providing strategic and business support for our Company's pipeline governance processes, necessitating active collaboration with finance and business leaders across our Research & Development division, Global Human Health, our Manufacturing division, and Corporate. Key deliverables include:
- Collaborating with finance and business stakeholders to provide integrated financial support for our Research & Development division portfolio, leveraging an enterprise-wide mindset.
- Contributing to the development of holistic portfolio reviews for our Research & Development division Early and Late-stage portfolio, in active collaboration with Global Project and Alliance Management and the Enterprise Strategy Office, ensuring a shared understanding of assumptions, inflection points, and risks.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams across the enterprise to develop integrated business cases and financial valuations in support of programmatic reviews at LDRC and HHPAC governance forums.
- Supporting DTRC by providing financial assessments of various programmatic and portfolio level decisions.
- Developing and deploying new portfolio management capabilities, as necessary, and providing enterprise-level financial support for the Enterprise Go to Market Model, in close partnership within our Research & Development division and across Global Human Health, our Manufacturing division, and Corporate.
- Providing necessary support to the development of the Long-Range Financial Plan of the enterprise by providing R&D pipeline related inputs and analysis to Global Human Health and Corporate Financial Services.
- Working closely across our Research & Development division Finance to seek necessary inputs for program and portfolio evaluation for the internal as well as externally sourced pipeline
BD&L & Corporate Licensing
- Lead financial planning and reporting for our Company's Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) and Corporate Licensing activities, including oversight of licensing and milestone commitments and the BD&L organization’s operating budget.
- Lead financial planning and reporting for Corporate Licensing activities, including forecasting licensing payments, milestones, and associated R&D obligations to ensure accurate incorporation into our Company's financial plans.
- Provide financial insights on existing licensed assets and partnerships, working with BD&L, program teams, and finance to monitor financial performance and support enterprise portfolio planning discussions.
- Oversee the financial planning and operating budget for the BD&L organization, including headcount and external services, ensuring alignment with our Research & Development division financial planning cycles and enterprise budget targets.
Productivity Measurement
- Developing and maintaining an integrated approach for assessing the value of our Company's R&D portfolio to support enterprise decision making. Key components of this work include:
- Supporting regular efforts to assess the value of our Company's “invisible” pipeline, working in close collaboration with colleagues in our Research & Development division, Global Human Health, and Corporate finance to:
- Understand the potential flow of assets through our Company's early pipeline
- Assess the efficiency of spend in the early space (anticipated returns relative to projected investments)
- Collaborating with colleagues across the company to develop and maintain a set of longer-term metrics to assess our Company's pipeline productivity, inclusive of financial and non-financial elements.
Alliance Management
- Partner with Moderna on V940 financial management. This includes aligning with key internal stakeholders to ensure an aligned our Company's position
- Lead internal Joint Finance Working Group. Partner closely with key stakeholders from other divisions within organization (HH, our Manufacturing division, Controller’s, Tax, etc)
- Review and prepare materials for governance meetings across alliance.
- Liase with Moderna Finance on all topics related to alliance management
Other Aspects Of The Role
- Supporting ad-hoc projects, initiatives and analysis in relation to the R&D portfolio.
- Having an appreciation for ‘the business of science’ and keeping up to date with the development of our Company's R&D portfolio
- Effectively communicate key financial assumptions and business drivers for relevant business cases at the appropriately altitude to senior management
- Developing and maintaining standardized processes, templates and methodology to ensure consistency and high quality of the work output
- Working closely with other members of Portfolio Finance to effectively and efficiently manage the overall volume of work in a timely manner based on organizational priorities.
- Building a network and driving collaboration within and outside of finance in pursuit of optimal business outcomes for our Company.
- Coaching and developing talent within the team and actively contribute to build a high performing team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in finance or strategic planning within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Well-versed in financial analysis, valuation techniques, and financial modeling.
- Strong executive presence and ability to process large amounts of information and data into relevant messages for senior leaders
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and effectively communicate complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

The salary range for this role is
$156,900.00 - $247,000.00
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.
The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
