Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is looking for a Fuel Systems Design Engineer (Experienced or Lead) to join the fuel systems team in Long Beach, California.
This is an exciting position with responsibility for airplane fuel system requirements definition, system design, coordination of internal and external system interfaces, post-production fleet support, and component and system level certification. Our Fuels team in Long Beach primarily supports post-production airplane products, however, there are often projects that require support across the product lifecycle including development and production.
The Fuel Systems Lead collaborates closely with cross-functional engineering teams, customer support groups, suppliers, and regulatory agencies, taking ownership as the Responsible Engineer to proactively advance critical safety projects and Service Related Problems (SRPs). This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, fuel system design knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple projects to contribute to the safety, quality, and reliability of Boeing’s commercial airplane fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
Leads development of design solutions to address Service Related Problems for in-service airplanes
Defines and develops requirements for fuel systems, distribution systems, and associated components
Collaborates with other engineering disciplines to successfully integrate with other aircraft systems and structures
Performs engineering and certification tests to validate fuel system design complies with requirements
Supports Customer Requests by providing engineering support for various fuel system repairs
Takes ownership of safety items and provides technical solutions to support Boeing’s customers
Performs applicant responsibilities for repairs and major changes that require FAA approval. Performs detailed engineering reviews of supplier changes
Authors technical documents including certification deliverables, Record Summaries, design guides, and other engineering reports
Provides technical leadership for various fuel system projects and stays accountable to program or customer schedules
Works with a sense of urgency
Presents technical topics and solutions to various review boards and communicates complex technical information in a simple way
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
5+ years of experience in propulsion
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
9+ years of experience in propulsion or fuel systems design for commercial or military aircraft
Experience using CATIA/ENOVIA, Model Based Definition, GD&T, or 2-D drawings
Experience in fuel systems architecture, requirements, or design
Experience working fuel systems repairs for commercial or military operators.
Familiarity with Boeing or FAA safety processes
Fault Tree Development or FMEA experience
Understanding of ODA relationships with FAA

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay range Experienced (Level 3) : $126,900- $155,100
Summary Pay range Lead (Level 4) : $154,800- $189,200
