Caterpillar’s BCP division is hiring a Compliance & EHS Specialist at the Clayton Machine Development Center (CMDC) in Clayton, NC.
Role Summary
The Compliance & EHS Specialist is an experienced individual contributor who integrates Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements with enterprise risk and compliance practices to support safe, ethical, and compliant operations. This role helps identify, assess, and manage EHS, regulatory, and business risks, ensures adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal standards, and supports the effectiveness of internal controls across all facility operations. The specialist partners closely with onsite engineering and operations, and collaborates with other Caterpillar EHS and compliance stakeholders, to drive continuous improvements, reduce risk, and strengthen EHS and compliance at the CMDC.

What You’ll Do (Job Duties):
- Serve as a subject matter expert on complex EHS, risk, and compliance initiatives that support facility, division, and enterprise performance.
- Identify EHS, regulatory, and compliance risks; evaluate their potential impact; and lead or support development and implementation of mitigation and corrective action plans.
- Ensure compliance with applicable EHS regulations, internal policies, ethical standards, and control requirements by supporting audits, assessments, and reviews.
- Design, implement, and maintain procedures, policies, and processes that strengthen EHS programs & worker safety, risk management practices, and compliance controls.
- Lead or support EHS & compliance training and awareness activities, ensuring safety & regulatory requirements, policies, & procedures are understood & consistently applied.
- Compile and monitor safety and compliance performance metrics, audit results, and reports to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities; communicate findings and recommendations to leadership, key stakeholders, and the broader organization.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, EHS, audit, and compliance teams to embed risk management and compliance considerations into daily business activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of EHS, risk, audit, and compliance processes, tools, and methods.
What You Have (Core Skills):
- Risk Management: Ability to identify, assess, document, and manage EHS, regulatory, and business risks using established risk management frameworks, tools, and processes to ensure compliance and safety.
- EHS Policy & Regulatory Compliance: Working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations and policies, with the ability to lead or support implementation, audits, and ongoing EHS and compliance efforts.
- Process Management & Improvement: Experience evaluating, designing, & improving business, EHS, and compliance processes to strengthen controls & reduce risk.
- Data Gathering & Analysis: Ability to collect, analyze, validate, and report data to support compliance decisions, audits, and risk assessments.
- Decision Making & Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex situations, evaluate alternatives, and support sound, well-documented decisions.
- Collaborating & Relationship Management: Ability to work constructively with cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, & maintain productive working relationships.
- Effective Communication: Ability to clearly communicate requirements, findings, and recommendations through written reports, presentations, and discussions.
- Organization & Attention to Detail: Ability prioritize, plan, and execute activities, while creating and maintaining fully complete documentation or records easily found and interpreted by others.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Business, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
- Progressive experience in EHS, risk management, audit, compliance, or related governance roles.
- Experience supporting or participating in EHS audits, compliance reviews, or internal control assessments.
- Experience developing or maintaining policies, procedures, training, or compliance programs.
- Familiarity with sustainability, regulatory agencies, or industry standards relevant to EHS and compliance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, advise, and build trust with leaders and stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.

Summary Pay Range:
$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
