Job Description Summary
The 2nd Shift Erlanger Site EHS Leader serves as the primary on-shift EHS authority, with a majority of time (>70%) spent on the production floor driving real-time risk identification, employee engagement, and hazard mitigation. This role is highly visible and operationally embedded, focused on ergonomics, job hazard analysis (JHA), and proactive injury prevention within a logistics environment.
The position requires a hands-on leader and educator who actively coaches employees and supervisors, while also holding all personnel including contractors accountable for safe behaviors, conditions, and compliance. This individual must be comfortable addressing unsafe acts immediately and driving corrective actions without hesitation.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary EHS lead for 2nd shift, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirements across all operations.
- Maintain a strong floor presence (majority of shift), conducting routine Gemba walks to identify, correct, and prevent unsafe acts, conditions, and behaviors in real time.
- Lead incident response, investigation, and root cause analysis, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
- Drive ergonomics and injury prevention efforts, identifying high-risk tasks and implementing practical solutions to reduce sprains, strains, and overexertion injuries.
- Own and continuously improve Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs), ensuring they are accurate, usable, and actively followed on the floor.
- Provide hands-on safety coaching and training to employees, supervisors, and contractors, reinforcing expectations and building safety awareness.
- Actively address and correct unsafe behaviors and conditions, holding employees, leadership, and contractors accountable to safety standards.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections to proactively identify hazards and drive timely corrective actions.
- Support and ensure execution of key EHS programs (e.g., PPE, PIT safety, hazard communication, LOTO oversight as applicable)
- Maintain accurate EHS documentation, reporting, and training records, ensuring audit readiness and compliance.
- The majority of the time is spent on the floor advising a strong emphasis on ergonomics and JHA effectiveness
Shift Hours
- Monday - Friday, 2:30PM EST - 10:30PM EST
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (OR high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of relevant EHS experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or logistics environment) + 3 years of relevant EHS experience in a warehouse, manufacturing or logistics environment
Desired Characteristics
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) development and execution.
- Ergonomics and injury prevention programs. - Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental, health, and safety compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to work independently on off-shifts, make sound decisions, and lead without direct supervision.
- Experience maintaining a strong floor presence, identifying hazards, and addressing unsafe behaviors in real time.
- ASP or GSP certification preferred, or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
- Strong ability to engage, coach, and educate employees on the floor, while holding individuals accountable to safety expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence supervisors and contractors and drive behavioral change.
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and program execution skills.
