Job Description

NBCUniversal’s Owned Television station in the KULX Telemundo Salt Lake City area, KULX, is looking for a skilled Senior Producer that works closely with the News Director and Assignment Desk Manager in the creation, showcasing, and execution of content on linear and non-linear, and for the most innovative news organization in Utah. This position requires strong creativity, editorial, legal, and administrative judgment. This position reports to the News Director.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing the shows’ editorial and journalistic balance, technical accuracy, and legal compliance.
- Responsible for overall production, content, and every element of each newscast.
- Capable of producing, co-producing, and line-producing any show.
- Conceptualizing, designing, innovating, and creating engaging and appealing content, projects, and segments.
- Have full understanding of each show’s strategy based on the target audience.
- Select, assign and organize news stories.
- Respond to breaking news with urgency and accuracy.
- Capable of maintaining an on-going breaking news story on the air.
- Assist with the training of news producers.
- Production: Great understanding of the production capabilities to help showcase newscasts, produce breaking news and specials.
- Work with MMJ and photographers to improve story and presentation.
- Contribute story ideas, participate in daily coverage decisions and editorial meetings.
- Work closely with News Director and Managing Editor on story/sweeps planning and coordination.
- Writing: (1) News writing is accurate, detailed, and balanced, (2) storytelling skills focused on facts, balanced emotions, smooth with a clear and logical flow, (3) trustworthy and tailored for news talent/anchors to present on-air.
- Topical Writer: Creatively tease viewers with key points, video, and audio. Sell the story without giving away the content.
- Will write news scripts, promotional teasers, headlines, and topicals
- Editorial and Ethics: Strong journalist and ethical background. Clear understanding of our viewers and type of stories they want. Be aware of current events that are relevant to our community and resent with an ethical and credible focus.
- Assist with Streaming, OTT and Fast Channel.
- Lead by example for all team members.
- Maintain a positive and respectful work environment.
- Leadership: take responsibility for own actions and take risks for the team and be a team player.
- Complete discrepancy reports with detail and accuracy to help prevent future problems.
- Understand and follow all Telemundo Utah News and NBC standards and ethics.
- Reports directly to the News Director.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish and English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of producer experience.
- Strong news judgment with solid ethical decision process
- Ability to pitch local stories and make contact with the community
Eligibility Requirements
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
- Must be 18 years or greater.
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must be willing to work long hours, varying shifts (including nights and weekends) and report to work in emergencies depending on news coverage when necessary.
- Must be willing to work at the station in Salt Lake City, Utah.
