As the AVP, Personal Lines Pricing - Property leader, you will be responsible for leading the development of new countrywide, state, and line level rate adequacy processes as well as scenario forecasting capabilities. Working in partnership with Nationwide’s Actuarial Modernization team, you will provide both actuarial thought leadership and technical leadership on these key deliverables. Additionally, you’ll lead the delivery, implementation, and training.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Develops strategy and provides actuarial thought leadership on new countrywide, state, line level rate adequacy processes as well as a scenario forecasting capability for Home and Auto.
Partners with Strategic Pricing, Product, Actuarial and Analytics leaders to develop and implement new solutions.
Leads cross functional teams including your staff, key partner areas, and 3rd party consultants in order to allocate resources ensuring completion of highest priority work.
Works within tight timelines to deliver a minimum viable product then continuously enhances and evolves the framework as needed.
Supports core pricing and planning work along with business demand as needed.
Oversees implementation of data governance in line with enterprise standards.
Hires, develops and manages actuarial/finance talent. Responsible for talent and succession planning.
Supports other special projects or ad hoc initiatives (e.g., assisting with strategic partnerships, audits, etc.).
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: This job reports to VP, Personal Lines Pricing. Leads a team of 12 or more associates..
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in actuarial science, business, finance, mathematics, economics, or related field with strong quantitative orientation. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society preferred, Associate in the Casualty Actuarial Society required.
Experience: Typically, ten or more years related experience (pricing, actuarial, product). Prior management experience required. Prior Personal Lines Pricing experience highly preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven track record in dramatically improving existing actuarial processes as well as envisioning and delivering completely new processes. Ability to identify needs of the organization and develop a multi-year strategic plan. Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and influence to achieve goals. Ability to attract, hire and develop strong talent. Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build and defend a business case, provide executive level recommendations and reporting. Proven ability to comprehend and explain actuarial concepts and other advanced technical concepts. Ability to assimilate information and make recommendations based on a combination of factors. Foundational knowledge of technology and actuarial data and tools; advanced modeling experience preferred.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
