Job Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
As a Senior Digital Product Owner – Supply Planning, you will play a critical role in strengthening Caterpillar’s supply planning digital portfolio, directly impacting the company’s ability to scale and support future growth. This role is focused on improving the quality, usability, and reliability of a mission‑critical digital product used across Caterpillar’s supply planning operations.
You will bring a strong analytical and systems‑oriented mindset to identify issues, query and analyze data, and drive continuous improvement through rigorous testing and quality assurance. Partnering closely with IT, engineering, and business stakeholders, you will ensure the product consistently meets user needs and supports supplier readiness at scale.
Why this role is exciting:
This is an opportunity to work on a high‑impact product where improvements directly influence Caterpillar’s supply base performance and long‑term growth strategy. The work you will do daily directly supports the company’s ability to scale and grow by ensuring suppliers have the tools needed to meet future demand. This role blends product ownership with hands‑on data analysis, quality assurance, and systems‑level problem solving.
What you will do:
Own and prioritize the product backlog for a critical supply planning digital product, ensuring alignment with business priorities and supplier readiness goals.
Improve product quality and usability by identifying systemic issues, analyzing root causes, and driving corrective actions.
Query and analyze data (including Snowflake and similar data platforms) to support troubleshooting, validation, and product decision‑making.
Lead quality assurance, testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT) activities to ensure solutions meet functional and usability expectations.
Manage software change requests by clearly defining scope, impacts, risks, and acceptance criteria.
Partner with IT, engineering, and business stakeholders to resolve issues using a systemic, end‑to‑end approach rather than point fixes.
Serve as a key liaison between technical teams and business users, translating complex findings into clear, actionable insights.
Support continuous improvement of digital capabilities that enable Caterpillar’s supply base to scale with future demand.
What skills you will have:
Business Analysis: Ability to identify business needs, analyze data, and recommend solutions that deliver measurable value.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Strong analytical judgment to evaluate trade‑offs, identify root causes, and resolve complex product issues.
Effective Communications: Ability to clearly communicate findings, priorities, and decisions across technical and non‑technical audiences.
Software Change Request Management: Experience managing product change requests from intake through validation and deployment.
User Acceptance Testing (UAT): Ability to design, execute, and evaluate testing strategies to ensure product quality and usability.
Top candidates will also have:
Degree in engineering or business and/or certifications in a supply chain management area of focus
Experience querying and analyzing data using Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms.
Hands‑on experience with quality assurance, testing, and troubleshooting in digital product environments.
Background in IT or software development, with an understanding of how digital products are built and supported.
Strong systems thinking — ability to diagnose issues across data, process, and technology layers.
Experience supporting enterprise or supply‑chain‑related digital tools.
Familiarity with Agile product development environments and product management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira).
