Job Description Summary
This is a critical leadership position for the largest site and business within our Electrical Power Systems division at GE Aerospace. The site has over 1,500 employees across Supply Chain, Programmes, Commercial, Engineering and Support Functions. It is a rapidly growing business with annual revenues approaching $500M, covering the entire product lifecycle of its products and services. The business serves both civil and defence markets, with multiple recent new product introductions and additional programmes planned over the next several years.
This role is a key member of the site leadership team and reports directly to the Divisional CFO. You will partner with site teams to develop and execute profitable growth strategies for the business and manage associated risk. In addition, you will actively shape the future growth and strategic direction of the wider Electrical Power Systems division.
You will be responsible for delivering an effective and efficient Finance function for the business. You will directly lead FP&A, Business Partnering, Engineering Finance, Supply Chain Finance and Commercial Finance teams, as well as partner with matrixed functional teams including Government Accounting, Aftermarket, Controllership, Tax and Transactional teams.
A key expectation of the role is to continue to develop a strong lean culture within Finance and across the wider business. You should be well versed in lean principles and able to coach others effectively, promoting the use of FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating system.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Partner with business Commercial, Product Line, Engineering, HR and Operations Directors to develop and execute profitable growth strategies for the business, and manage associated risk
- Develop site financial and operating processes to ensure the business delivers against its growth targets, while driving continuous improvement in performance over time
- Lead the development of financial acumen across the business, ensuring accountability for results is clear and understood at all levels
- Lead site-wide transformation projects as required
- Lead the Finance function to produce quarterly, annual and long-term forecasts and budgets, and drive the business and reporting to execute against them
- Partner with Commercial teams to shape business strategy and underwrite commercial deals and bids
- Partner with Supply Chain, Programmes and Engineering teams to deliver complex New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes and manage associated risk
- Ensure compliance and integrity standards are upheld to the highest level across the business, including within Finance
- Be an ambassador for site Diversity & Inclusion networks, helping ensure GE Aerospace is considered a great place to work for all
- Champion continuous improvement within and beyond Finance. Lead the lean transformation for the business and your function by strengthening lean capability across the organisation and changing the way we operate
Essential requirements
- Fully qualified professional accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA/QBE) with post-qualification experience in a large company
- Strong leadership experience working in, and leading, large and diverse teams
- Experience of operating at, or reporting to, board-level executives
- Demonstrable track record of driving business performance and delivering results
- A good working knowledge of lean, with demonstrable use of lean tools and processes to drive results
- Track record of working across multiple Finance disciplines
- Experience of leading and participating in transformation and change projects
- Strong presentation skills, both within and outside of Finance
- Strong understanding of key accounting standards (IFRS and US GAAP, depending upon role), or a demonstrable ability to learn new standards where required
- Strong understanding of P&L, balance sheets and cash flow statements
- Self-starter who can work on their own initiative
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to describe not just what happened, but why
- Able to speak and write English fluently
- Able to work on projects designated for UK citizens only
Preferential experience and skills
- Experience working in manufacturing and/or engineering environments
- Experience of working in defence, including “cost plus” working arrangements
- Experience of Oracle and associated reporting suites
- Well organised, able to plan, communicate and execute according to defined timescales
- Strong communicator, both within and outside of the Finance function
