1. Ownership: (a) self-motivated, (b) eager to volunteers for challenging projects, (c) goal oriented and trusted with delivering effective outcomes, (d) work demonstrates to team members that they are a “go-to” person when problems needing fixed, (e) when faced with an unfamiliar situation they look forward to learning and developing themselves, (f) others learn quickly to trust and depend on them to achieves expected/needed outcomes.
2. Customer Value: (a) value and non-value adding work is viewed through the customer’s “eyes”, (b) there is an deliberate effort to deliver value to internal/external customers, (c) capable of defining how value is delivered and quantified, (d) understands product and information process flows and able to improve both, and (f) seeks perfection/improvements in process methods / principles / practices.
3. Work Standards: (a) capable of graphically defining processes; (d) able to analyzes processes and design them to reduce hazards and improve in efficiency and in quality; (c) write modular highly-visible standard work and work instructions, (d) communicates standard work processes and procedures, and at a minimum (e) will create / maintain accurate production routers and be accountable for the multi-faceted business impact.
4. Tooling: (a) evaluates processes for tooling, jigs, and fixtures improvements; (b) seeks tooling feedback to improve safety, quality, and efficiency; (c) procures readily available or can design tooling solutions; (d) procure, trial, and validate tooling; (e) utilizes software to initiate, maintain, and sunset documents – i.e. AutoCAD® , Vault®, Inventor®, SAP, View & Print (V&P), or other; (f) adds tooling to production routers and standard work.
5. Cap/Ex Improvement: (a) leads the site’s capital feasibility, annual planning, procurement, and commissioning; (b) be a collection point for potential projects, effectively analyzes ROI, and propose a priority of annual projects; (c) facilitates a comprehensive annual capital plan; (d) creates bid packets, secure/review quotes, and obtain accurate costs; (e) creates an acceptable cost justification; (f) creates project charters and plans; (h) site expert on Komatsu’s appropriation request (AR) submission process and submits ARs with follow-up and regular communications; (i) executes projects and improvements within budget and to the stated timeline, following PMI project management phases when applicable; and, (j) commissions Cap/Ex with a cross-functional team that includes EHS, Quality, Production, Maintenance, and/or other key stakeholders.
6. World Class Manufacturing: Be the site’s expert and promoter of worldwide manufacturing engineering best practices, concepts, principles, and practices. For example, a few items follow: broad concepts such as Change Management, (PMI) Project Management, Lean Manufacturing, Value Methodology, and Six Sigma (6s) but applying practical principles and techniques wisely (i.e. Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), Principles of Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), Poke-Yoke/Error-Proofing, Jidoka / Autonomation, Inventory / Information / Work Pull Systems, 7 Basic Quality Tools, Quality Circles, Capability Indices, 6 Major Losses, TEEP/OEE, 6S & Visual Factory, Small Improvement Events or Kaizen, PERT, or other if / when applicable, or research and develop other innovative solutions.
