Job Description:
Johnson and Johnson Global Legal Organization is recruiting for a VP Legal Innovation & Transformation, located in New Brunswick, NJ.
The VP Legal Innovation & Transformation is a global role responsible for developing and executing a global legal innovation and transformation strategy for the Global Legal Organization (GLO). This role is a strategic partner to execute GLO’s ambition to provide fit for purpose counsel and services and optimize capabilities with a leaner service without sacrificing effectiveness, competitiveness, or compliance. The incumbent will provide innovative solutions to the management of legal work, with an emphasis on data, analytics and the integration of technology. This includes a proactive, strategic approach to external spend management and building greater transparency on the full GLO budget working collaboratively with finance and other enterprise partners.
Headcount supported (Direct):
This role will oversee a team of 20–30 FTEs and contractors based in global J&J locations including low-cost hubs.
Headcount supported (Indirect):
This role indirectly supports the entire GLO (~800 roles).
Responsibilities:
Work management and fit for purpose service delivery
Develop and execute the legal department’s work management strategy to focus on what matters most and reduce low value work with broad engagement across GLO informed by business feedback and priorities
Develop qualitative and quantitative feedback loops and data dashboards with analytics to inform work management
Partner with legal leadership to deliver GLO services through a fit for purpose, strategically deployed global workforce with clear roles, embedded optimization, and scalable capacity to deliver the right work at the right time at the right cost
Develop and execute design and oversight of global resource deployment model including low-cost locations (India/Bogata)
Develop and maintain comprehensive metrics on GLO value delivered to business
Process excellence and new ways of working
Reimagine end-to- end workflows to drive faster, more agile decision-making through clear accountability and smart integration of technology
Design and implement standardized workflows, templates, and procedures
Oversee the execution of ad-hoc and timebound projects with consistent discipline across GLO
Legal technology and innovation
Develop and execute a comprehensive legal technology roadmap
Assess and develop robust business cases for financial impact/value delivered from technology investment
Evaluate, select, and implement legal technology solutions
Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and drive change management and adoption
Track usage and uptake with hard and soft metrics
External spend management
Develop and implement outside counsel management strategy, guidelines, performance management and feedback
Continuously scan market for legal outsourcing opportunities and identify opportunities across GLO to integrate broader range of lower cost resources (e.g. alternative legal service providers)
Negotiate rates, value-based partnerships, fee arrangements, and engagement terms with external vendors globally
Enable integrated, transparent visibility to senior leaders on all GLO external spend
Team leadership and development
Build, lead, and develop a global legal innovation & transformation team
Manage hiring, performance reviews, compensation, and career development
Qualifications:
JD degree and an active admission to a U.S. state bar, and/or an MBA or master’s degree in business administration, finance, or operations, is preferred.
10+ years of professional experience in innovation and transformation with at least 5 years of operational, technology, and law firm partnership/spend management experience at scale; substantial experience in corporate legal departments or law firms, with in-house experience strongly preferred.
Experience managing budgets of significant size.
Proven track record of implementing legal technology solutions and driving process improvements, including offshoring design and management.
Strong AI and automation knowledge; experience building operations from the ground up.
Experience with project management in complex organizations, ideally including leading enterprise-scale technology deployments.
5-10+ years of experience managing teams and functions, preferably across geographies / on a global scale.
An ability to manage a variety of stakeholders and influence up, down, and across an organization.
Experience working in a corporate legal department within a highly regulated industry.
Experience and training in operational excellence and legal technologies, including: project management certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum); certifications in process improvement and change management methodologies (Lean Six Sigma, PROSCI); and/or engagement and training via legal operations organizations (CLOC, ALOP).

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$199,000.00 - $366,850.00
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
