Who we’re looking for
The role sits at the center of Toyota Motor North America’s Product planning team, specifically the Cross Carline (CCL) Advanced Technology Strategy team. The role will have a strong focus on software-defined vehicles and AI in the cockpit. You will turn customer insights, market trends, and technical realities into clear business cases and actionable product requirements influencing mid term product direction and building out to long term. By connecting research, engineering, and business teams, you will help shape which technologies Toyota prioritizes and why. This role directly influences the future value, competitiveness, and customer experience of Toyota’s next-generation vehicles.
What you’ll be doing
Develop business cases and product requirements for advanced vehicle technologies, with emphasis on software-defined vehicles and cockpit AI.
Translate consumer insights, survey results, and research findings into clear recommendations that inform product planning decisions.
Lead project management efforts for cockpit AI initiatives, using research, market data, and development knowledge to help prioritize direction.
Partner with Toyota affiliated research entities, connected experience division, and business unit teams to align technology requests with feasibility, timing, and strategic goals[EF1] .
Assess current electrical platform limitations and opportunities to refine technology requests and track progress against development goals.
Analyze market value, competitive risk, and customer benefit to build strong investment cases for new software-enabled capabilities.
Communicate findings and recommendations through concise reports, presentations, and stakeholder updates that support decision-making.
Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities that can strengthen Toyota’s product strategy.
Attend conferences and trade shows to detect and report OEM/supplier/industry future direction
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, Human Factors, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Experience in product planning, technology strategy, market research, or a similarly analytical role.
Demonstrated ability to build business cases and convert data into actionable recommendations.
Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, product planning, and business stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize consumer insights, survey data, and market research.
Proficiency in creating clear presentations, reports, and executive-ready summaries.
Working knowledge of automotive technology planning, software-defined vehicles, connected services, or cockpit innovation.
Added bonus if you have
Experience leading research programs, innovation initiatives, or technology roadmap projects.
Familiarity with automotive electrical/electronic platforms and vehicle development processes.
Exposure to AI-enabled in-cabin experiences, connected vehicle technologies, or software-centric product strategy.
Experience evaluating competitive landscape, customer value, and technology investment tradeoffs.
Advanced degree such as an MBA or similar graduate degree.
Experience with research, benchmarking, or planning tools such as mTAB, JATO, Vehicle Planner+, PIN, or similar platforms.
Background in the automotive industry, especially product planning or technology strategy.
Experience preparing executive recommendations tied to business impact, pricing, or value creation.
