Program Summary

Job Summary
As the Gunsmith (Small Arms), you will service and repair military weapons and weapon support systems in a secure storage and repair facility, using tools, support equipment, and materials. Performs varied duties including field level maintenance on US Military weapons and weapon support systems, targeting, range finding, and certain night vision devices. Includes diagnostics, parts identification and requisition, and repairs in accordance with technical specifications and specified repair times.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Design, fabricate, modify, repair and service foreign and domestic firearms, weapons, and accessories.
- Possesses required knowledge in the use of hand tools, machine tools, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties, has the knowledge and skill to design and construct prototype small arms from drawings or customer input.
- Design computer prototypes from customer input, has the necessary knowledge of munitions and ballistics to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Usually requires attendance at factory Armorer’s courses of small arms in the arms room inventory, performs major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard small arms weapons, can build either custom pistols or rifles with little or no supervision, possesses excellent knowledge of gun-smiting tools and procedures, and possesses moderate knowledge of firearms operating principles and ballistics.
- Has a thorough understanding of firearm operation principles.
- Has a moderate knowledge of internal/external ballistic theories.
- Can fabricate special jigs, fixtures, and other special tooling with some supervision.
- Can read and understand blueprint drawings.
- Can work from those drawings under direct supervision.
- Can perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard small arms weapon systems.
- This position may require computer literacy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
- Candidates must be authorized to work in Germany or be able to obtain required work authorization; any offer of employment is contingent upon successful application for, receipt of, and continued compliance with German immigration and work visa requirements.
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of directly related experience.
- Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environments, outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to team lift up to 50 pounds in a two-person carry.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently.
- Must be free of medical restriction/ limitations that prevent the wearing and utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Must be able to pass pre-employment and background checks related to the position.
- Must be able to climb in and out of military vehicles and related equipment.
- Must be able to work in cramped areas for at least two continuous hours.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions to include intense heat, heavy wind, blowing sand, heavy rain, and snow and sleet.
- Employees shall utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices associated with all lifting and material handling tasks that are assigned and associated with this job description
- Requires a valid passport with at least 12 months of validity and 6 blank pages.
Preferred Qualifications (Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)
- Experience and ability to work effectively with non-native English speakers strongly preferred.
- Prior overseas professional experience.
