Department Overview The Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team at Micron Technology holds a pivotal role in validating firmware specifications for SSDs. The team develops comprehensive verification plans, implements these using Python, and ensures strict adherence to NVMe standards and security protocols. Testing methodologies include white-box, grey-box, and black-box approaches conducted on a module-by-module basis throughout firmware development and integration. Validation occurs across multiple environments, including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and prototype hardware.
Job Summary The Staff Engineer (E4) in the Firmware & Product Testing (FPT) team leads the validation strategy for enterprise SSD firmware, driving test architecture, automation frameworks, and AI/ML-powered testing methodologies. This role owns end-to-end validation of complex NVMe front-end features and customer specifications while mentoring junior engineers and influencing cross-functional technical decisions. The Staff Engineer shapes the strategic direction of test infrastructure, champions data-driven quality improvements, and serves as a technical authority at the intersection of firmware validation and AI/ML innovation.
Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with ~8+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with ~6+ years, or PhD with ~4+ years in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field

Expert-level Python proficiency; strong command of NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, and experience building production-quality automation frameworks

Deep expertise in test architecture, automation strategy, and validation methodologies; proven track record of designing scalable test solutions

Demonstrated experience applying ML models to real-world problems; ability to design, train, and deploy models for test optimization and failure analysis

Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, influence without authority, and drive alignment across teams

Excellent ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including senior leadership

Experience with SSD firmware testing, NVMe protocol/specification, and storage architecture

Proficiency with Linux/Windows system administration, Git version control, and CI/CD pipelines
Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent; experience with MLOps practices

Track record of implementing AI/ML solutions in production testing or validation environments

Deep understanding of embedded systems, firmware architecture, and hardware-software interfaces

Experience with storage industry standards (NVMe, PCIe, OCP) at specification level

Familiarity with Rust/C for firmware code comprehension

Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (logs, metrics, dashboards)

Knowledge of NAND flash memory architecture and advanced debug/root cause analysis

Contributions to open-source projects, patents, or published technical work

Experience leading cross-functional initiatives or small teams

The US base salary range that Micron Technology estimates it could pay for this full-time position is:
$121,000.00 - $207,000.00 a year
Additional compensation may include benefits, bonuses and equity.
