About the Company
We are an industrial safety company, focused on selling, installing, and servicing safety equipment for US manufacturing facilities. We are the exclusive U.S. retrofit distributor for LazerSafe press brake safety systems. Guardomation (parent company of APS) also partners with 30+ other major brands in the space (e.g., Banner, Keyence, Pinnacle) and provides broader machine guarding solutions — rear guards, perimeter fencing, scissor gates, and interlock systems. Together we serve 1000+ manufacturing accounts across automotive, aerospace, food processing, pharmaceutical, energy, and general manufacturing sectors nationwide.
Our primary product — the LazerSafe Sentinel Plus — is a camera-based safety system for hydraulic press brakes that monitors stopping performance on every stroke and allows operators to work within one inch of tooling safely. Many of our customers come to us after failing an OSHA inspection, and our work brings them into compliance with ANSI B11.3, OSHA 1910.217, and OSHA 1910.212.
About the Role
We’re looking for a transitioning service member to join our field technician team through a 12-week SkillBridge fellowship. You’ll travel to customer manufacturing facilities nationwide to install, service, and maintain industrial safety systems on hydraulic press brakes and other metalworking equipment. The work blends electrical skills (wiring safety controllers, building interfaces, reading schematics) with mechanical fabrication (drilling, tapping, bracket mounting, encoder placement).
You’ll learn on the job alongside our senior technicians starting in Week 3, with the first two weeks focused on electronics fundamentals, interface builds, and workshop practice. Demand currently exceeds our installation capacity — there’s no shortage of work. Fellows who demonstrate aptitude and commitment receive a full-time employment offer at the end of the program.
What You’ll Do
• Install LazerSafe Sentinel Plus camera-based safety systems on hydraulic press brakes —bracket mounting, wiring harnesses, PGS3 controller setup, encoder placement, HMI configuration, calibration, and overrun testing
• Build custom electrical interfaces and wiring harnesses for machine-specific installations (Cincinnati ADI, AcuPress back-off modules, Bystronic retrofits)
• Install machine guarding solutions: rear guards, perimeter fencing, scissor gates, and safety interlock systems
• Conduct overrun tests to verify hydraulic integrity and stopping performance per ANSI B11.3
• Deliver post-installation operator training at customer facilities (typically 2 hours per site)
• Troubleshoot technical issues in the field, collaborating with senior technicians by phone when needed
• Manage field deployments: travel logistics, per diem expense tracking, customer communication, and job documentation
• Perform service calls, repairs, and annual recertification visits at existing customer sites
What We’re Looking For
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude — comfortable drilling, tapping, mounting hardware, working with metal. Breaking a tap is part of learning; we want someone who isn’t afraid of tools.
• Electrical fundamentals — able to read wiring diagrams and schematics, comfortable working with low-voltage control circuits, connectors, and cable assemblies
• Problem-solving mindset — every machine is different. Variations by manufacturer, size, production year, and location mean no two installs are identical. Even our experienced techs encounter new situations regularly.
• Willingness to travel 65–75% of the time. Typical trips are 3–14 days. You’ll cover the country — Idaho to Mississippi to Wisconsin to Texas.
• Strong work ethic and reliability. You’ll be representing the company on-site at customer facilities, often working independently after your training ramp.
• Valid driver’s license (company vehicle provided)
• No degree required — aptitude, work ethic, and willingness to learn are what matter most
Ideal Military Backgrounds
NCOs or Warrant Officers with technical MOS backgrounds who are comfortable working with their hands and tools, mechanically and electrically inclined. We value the discipline, problem-solving, and hands-on experience that come with military technical trades.
Training Program (12 Weeks)
Weeks 1–2: Orientation, electronics fundamentals, and workshop builds. You’ll build real interfaces and wiring harnesses, practice installations on bench equipment, and get grounded in OSHA/ANSI standards before heading to the field.
Weeks 3–4: Supervised field installations with our Lead Engineer and/or Senior Field Technicians. Out on the road doing real jobs — you’ll assist with complete LazerSafe installations and machine guarding projects at customer sites.
Weeks 5–6: Continued field work and expanded scope into different machine types and guarding solutions. Building confidence with encoder placement, the hardest skill to master.
Weeks 7–8: Semi-independent field work. Taking on more responsibility for job execution while a senior tech is on-site.
Weeks 9–10: Leading jobs with oversight. Running installs start to finish with a senior tech available for support.
Weeks 11–12: Leading jobs and employment transition. Full proficiency takes 6–12 months beyond the fellowship — continued mentorship carries seamlessly into your full-time role.
Compensation & Benefits (Post-Fellowship)
• Competitive salary commensurate with experience ($55-65k base)
• Company vehicle for field travel or flights covered
• Per diem for all travel days
• 401(k) with 4% company match
• Year-end performance bonus (total comp package up to $90k/year)
• Company credit card for work expenses
• Company phone
• Branded work apparel
• Strong backlog of work and career advancement potential in a growing company
Why This Role
Industrial machine safety is a niche with real demand, and this is a specialized trade with longterm career stability. You’ll be doing meaningful work — making manufacturing facilities safer and helping companies pass OSHA inspections. The travel means variety: different cities, different machines, different customers every week. And unlike many SkillBridge placements, this isn’t a desk job — it’s hands-on, skilled trade work that translates directly from military technical experience.
