KBR’s Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) provides biomedical, medical and health services in support of all human spaceflight programs at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston. HHPC supports multiple NASA programs and offices including the International Space Station, Orion, Advanced Exploration Systems, Space Technology Mission Directorate, Human Research Program, Gateway, Human Landing System, and Commercial Crew and Cargo programs. Services provided under this contract are flight hardware requirements definition, design, fabrication, testing and operations and payload and hardware integration.
SUMMARY: HHPC’s Human Systems Engineering and Development (HSED) Department, flight hardware engineering team is looking for an energetic and dynamic project manager who will represent the contract as a contact point for projects involving the development of flight hardware for JSC programs and offices. This position will require the candidate to lead teams, initiate and participate in project planning and development, monitor project progress by setting deadlines, solve issues, manage budgets, ensure stakeholder satisfaction, and review project performance and milestones throughout the entire life cycle. This role requires a disciplined self-starter with strong organizational, time management, comprehension, and communication skills.
This position will be required to perform integration across the majority of engineering disciplines (systems engineering, project engineering, design and fabrication, and test and integration) on a weekly basis. The position will require the ability to allocate tasking, status technical, budget/financial management, schedule and risks. Presentation of findings, reports and status is completed routinely. Routine reporting includes both contractor management and the NASA customer (Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all expectations and communication with engineering stakeholders including organization of regular meetings with HHPC and JSC personnel to support project expectations, milestones, and delivery
- Develop and document a detailed engineering project for human spaceflight, including overall plans, schedules, requirements, testing, and validation products
- Organize and lead internal engineering meetings to support schedule development and maintenance, mitigate potential issues and develop client-friendly solutions in coordination with internal and external stakeholders
- Establish and maintain overall project schedules by tracking budgets, key milestones, and final engineering deliverables
- Support proposal development including task/milestone definition and detailed cost/schedule estimates
- Assist the Systems Engineering team (SE&I) with milestones including but not limited to design reviews, operations reviews, verification and certification reviews.
- Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and the Company's safety policies/rules. Must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
- Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance plan, policies and procedures
- Responsible for completing all assigned training
- Participate in ISO/AS9100 Audits
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, math, project management, or science
- 5+ years’ experience as a project manager in the aerospace industry, or similar role
- Experienced in managing spaceflight projects of different sizes from start to finish
- Experience in organization of technical reviews for life cycle milestones
- Experience in customer interfacing role
- Experience in managing projects of different sizes from start to finish
- Experience and understanding of configuration management for documentation and hardware/software.
- Experience leading negotiations with contract/vendors and completing procurement
- Cost account management experience and reporting
Desired:
- Experience with MS Project
- Experience with Flight Hardware Development processes as outlined in EA-023
- Previous working experience with NASA or a NASA contractor
- Previous experience with Human Systems Engineering such as human factors and designing for the product end-user
