BAE Systems is looking for a Hardware Design Quality Engineer to support our Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System (APKWS) Production Program. The APKWS Production Program is responsible for over $250M in annual sales revenue and the factory is located in Hudson, NH. The Hardware Design Quality Engineer will be responsible for supporting Design Quality Efforts on various development programs including a key focus on second sourcing initiatives to ensure supply chain resilience. The successful candidate will serve as an assurance partner with engineering by influencing and providing technical guidance on design quality assurance and design for manufacturability. Through early engagement in the design and development phase, the successful candidate will influence the adoption of engineering best practices to identify and eliminate defects early in the product lifecycle. This person will ensure product designs meet customer, quality, and reliability requirements and align to factory and supplier capabilities. This position will be responsible for supporting hardware designs and digital hardware architectures for all products and may also provide some development support for hardware engineering teams.A Hardware Design Quality Engineer will typically fulfill the following responsibilities:- Quality Planning & Execution: Contribute to hardware design quality assurance project bid estimates and tailor against contract requirements to develop and execute the hardware design quality assurance plan.
- Requirements Validation: Ensure internal and external product requirements are understood, validated, and properly traced to design, implementation, and testing and support qualification testing inclusive of system test set-up conformity, test monitoring, and review of qualification test reports and failure investigation reports.
- Test Solution Design and Validation: Ensure test strategies/solutions are properly designed to qualify products while ensuring factory acceptance tests meet the customer intent.
- Design Reviews: Participate in and influence outcome of design reviews and provide constructive design related feedback on engineering documentation including engineering models, test plans, and other development artifacts.
- Change Control: Ensure proper implementation and validation of design changes.
- APQP/AS9145: Support Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities such as Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) activities and Key Characteristic (KC) identification.
- Design Optimization: Ensure that design guidelines, process and factory capabilities, and best practices such as Design for Manufacturability (DFM) are utilized.
- Risk & Opportunity and Supply Chain Support: Provide input to technical risk and opportunity management and to part and supplier selection to ensure that they meet design, manufacturability, and quality requirements.
- Design Process Compliance and Continuous Improvement: Ensure compliance to design processes, collect and analyze design quality metrics, and cross-pollinate hardware design best practices across programs to facilitate a culture of continuous improvement.
- Mentorship: Mentor team members in design quality assurance, processes, and regulatory requirements.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills - Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or technical field and 4-8+ years of related experience
- Capable of obtaining a U.S. Department of War (DoW) Secret Security Clearance
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with development teams and stakeholders and provide constructive feedback and mentorship to technical teams
- Ability to influence without authority
- Strong problem solving and risk management skills leveraged to ensure that the solutions meet the needs of the business and the warfighter
- Experience in hardware development life cycle including requirements capture and verification, design and development, and sub-level and system level integration and testing including understanding the purpose of tests and method to validate
- Design Review experience
- Understanding and use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and standard tolerancing schemes for mechanical prints
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Experience in model-based engineering including proficiency in 3D CAD solid modeling
- Proficient in requirement management tools
- Capable of hands-on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment
- Knowledge of military aerospace testing standards
- Experience with AS9145 APQP (DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plan development)
- Familiarity with Quality Sciences (8D/RCCA and Lean Six Sigma methodologies) and AS9100/ISO 9001 standards
- Experience with JIRA or equivalent workflow management
- Experience in aerospace and defense, automotive, or medical industry
- Technical competency:
- Engineering experience with Printed Wiring Board (PWB) and Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) development
- Understanding of requirements decomposition from system requirements to electrical engineering requirements
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software
- Understanding of environmental and ESS testing/approval/release processes and IPC/workmanship standards
- Understanding of requirements decomposition from system requirements to mechanical engineering requirements
Pay InformationFull-Time Salary Range: $118095 - $200762

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
