Cummins will consider any Active duty member that is eligible for the DoD SkillBridge program however, for immediate consideration, Cummins is looking for Military members to fill the following role:
- Diesel Technician - Odessa, TX
- Alternate locations may include: Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso and more.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Cummins DoD SkillBridge criteria:
- Must be a current Active Duty Servicemember
- Must be separating from the Military in 4-12 months
- Must be able to complete a minimum of 8 weeks and up to a maximum of 6 months SkillBridge internship
- Must be able to complete 40 hours per week
- Willingness to learn from others on the job
Requirements
- Active military service member participating in the SkillBridge program with a strong interest in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment repair.
- Dealership experience or hands-on mechanical background is highly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of engine diagnostics, vehicle maintenance procedures, and mechanical systems repair.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, or farm machinery is advantageous.
- Ability to read schematics and technical manuals accurately; strong mechanical knowledge required.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and operate machinery safely; excellent attention to safety protocols is essential.
- Strong communication skills with a focus on customer service and teamwork.
This non-paid internship provides an exceptional pathway for transitioning military skills into civilian careers in Heavy Truck repair, industrial equipment maintenance, or engine diagnostics—setting you up for long-term success in the Heavy Duty industry!
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a military transitional program that does not provide compensation through Cummins. If selected for full-time employment with Cummins upon completion of SkillBridge you will be eligible for: base salary rate commensurate with experience. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
Pay: From $28.84 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
