Job Summary

Under direction, is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of new and existing lock systems. Responsibilities include planning and setting up master lock systems on a variety of new and existing systems and interacting directly with clients. Exercises no supervision.

7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday; weekends and/or holidays as required by business needs; rotate with on-call-duty

Essential Job Functions

Installs, services, and maintains mechanical and electronic lock systems.
Makes emergency repairs to lock systems.
Manually operates a key coding machine and duplicator machine, frequently lifting and carrying equipment weighing 30 pounds.
Repairs, services and adjusts all types of locks for doors, gates and office furniture.
Logs keys that are issued and returned.
Re-keys locks for lost or stolen keys.
Recodes locks that involve changing pins and tumblers to avoid breach of security.
Maintains inventory and orders necessary parts, replacement keys and pin keys.
Conducts periodic inspections of push button locks and audits of all keys.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
Three (3) years of experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing lock systems.
Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.
Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment and a Criminal History Records check upon employment.
Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times.

Applicant Information

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of locksmithing, including electrical and security systems.
Knowledge of inventory techniques.
Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions.
Knowledge of setting up master lock systems.
Knowledge of proper tools and materials used to service and repair mechanical and electronic door locks.
Knowledge of FAA, TSA, CBP and Fire safety regulations, Airport Authority Polices related standard to install locks and inspect installation of locks.
Skill in recoding locks.
Skill in using Key Duplicator Machines.
Skill in using Code Milling Key Machine.
Skill in using hand tools and equipment common to maintenance and repair work.
Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to establish, maintain and foster effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
Working conditions are primarily inside with occasional work outdoors with exposure to dirt, loud noise and temperature extremes.
