The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) manages Liberty Mutual Insurance Group’s (LMIG) global financial assets across global and private domains to build capital and generate income. Due to expansion of our business, we have a need to recruit an Associate in the Transaction Services (TS) group of Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) Finance.
LMI’s Transaction Services group is an internal consulting team focused on supporting the business of investing by providing guidance on deal structuring, deal accounting, valuation, capital management, derivatives, accounting policy, and financial reporting across all asset classes. TS partners with LMI’s investment professionals to navigate through complex transactions during each phase of the transaction process from due diligence to operational execution and on-going financial reporting. TS is responsible for LMI accounting policy and deal support across all asset classes including fixed income, derivatives, private credit, real estate, private equity, and energy transition and renewables sectors.
The primary focus of this role will be technical accounting and deal support across all asset classes. #LMI
Responsibilities
- Research, evaluate and document technical accounting and financial reporting implications of complex non-routine transactions, including private equity, real estate, joint ventures, asset backed securities, CLOs, structured financing, fixed income, syndicated loans, and distressed debt transactions. Apply US GAAP, IFRS and NAIC accounting standards within the context of the facts and circumstances unique to a particular issue.
- Prepare accounting policy memos and executive level presentations documenting facts, applicable accounting policy guidance, and conclusions.
- Assist front office with structuring complex transactions including review and interpretation of contracts and other documentation to provide accounting guidance on transactions.
- Perform detailed consolidation assessments of new legal entities and SPVs, and reconsideration of consolidation assessments for existing legal entities.
- Establish and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships within LMI, Corporate Finance, outsourcing partners and external auditors.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
- CPA license or equivalent required.
- Big 4 accounting firm financial services and/or national technical office experience, or accounting policy or other technical accounting role at a financial institution required (minimum 8 years experience).
- Thorough, comprehensive and current understanding of US GAAP, IFRS and STAT, with demonstrated expertise in accounting for complex transactions including lending products, financial instruments including derivatives, securitization, and consolidation.
- Advanced ability to research the most complex technical issues and work issues through to conclusion.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and ability to tailor communication to technical and non-technical audiences and all levels of management.
- Demonstrated ability to work across experience levels in a team environment and across front office and all levels of the organization to develop solutions.
- The ability to influence, create and maintain positive professional and industry-related relationships.
