The Work
We are looking for a Software Engineer Staff (E4) to join our team where you will be responsible for implementing new functionality by designing, developing, and testing Software Change Requests (SCRs) through both preliminary and detailed design stages, including code inspection. In this role you will set up and operate development benches, simulators, and real hardware, troubleshooting and validating code on the target system. You will collaborate closely with Software Architects to review proposed software changes and work with support staff to schedule reviews and coordinate efforts with System Engineers, Integration and Test Engineers, and Software Verification Engineers.
In addition to new development, you will address Program Trouble Reports (PTRs) for existing software using the same test environments, provide Earned Value data to support program performance tracking, and manage SCRs and PTRs in our JIRA issue‑tracking system, ensuring each item progresses through the appropriate workflow and is fully documented. Participation in software regression testing cycles and representation of the software discipline in engineering reviews are also key components of the position.
The ideal candidate has proven experience with end‑to‑end software development—including design documentation, code inspection, and testing—and is comfortable working in a secure lab environment with hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, as is familiarity with JIRA or similar issue‑tracking tools and earned‑value management concepts.
This role is based in Owego, NY; applicants should be local to the area or willing to relocate.
