Lockheed Martin Space is seeking an Associate Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers supporting the development, integration, test, and delivery of embedded and flight software systems.

The selected candidate will provide technical and functional leadership for a team of software engineers while working closely with program leadership, systems engineering, hardware engineering, test, product owners, and other software teams. The role is responsible for ensuring successful execution of software commitments while developing the technical capability and professional growth of the engineering team.

Key responsibilities include:

* Lead and manage a team of software engineers developing, integrating, and testing embedded and flight software.
* Provide technical leadership and support resolution of complex software, hardware/software integration, and system-level issues.
* Coordinate software priorities, staffing, schedules, risks, and dependencies with program and engineering leadership.
* Support software planning, estimation, release execution, integration, and test activities.
* Monitor execution against cost, schedule, technical, and quality commitments and proactively identify risks and mitigation plans.
* Promote disciplined software engineering practices, including configuration management, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, defect management, and requirements traceability.
* Work with technical leads and senior engineers to establish software architecture, development approaches, integration strategies, and technical priorities.
* Communicate software status, risks, dependencies, and recovery plans to engineering leadership, program management, and customers.
* Provide functional management for assigned employees, including performance management, career development, mentoring, staffing, recognition, and employee engagement.
* Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and development of engineering talent.
* Foster a collaborative engineering culture focused on technical excellence, accountability, continuous improvement, and successful program execution.

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
* Experience developing, integrating, or testing software for embedded, real-time, aerospace, defense, or other complex systems.
* Experience with software development using languages such as C, C++, Python, or similar languages.
* Demonstrated experience leading technical teams, projects, work packages, or software development efforts.
* Experience planning and coordinating software development, integration, test, or release activities.
* Ability to identify and communicate technical, schedule, and execution risks and develop appropriate mitigation plans.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, technical leadership, program management, and customers.
* Demonstrated ability to work across engineering disciplines and organizations to resolve complex technical and programmatic issues.
* Experience mentoring or developing engineers and providing technical leadership in a collaborative team environment.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for positions requiring a security clearance.

Desired Skills

* Experience with embedded flight software, avionics software, payload processing, or spacecraft systems.
* Experience leading Agile software development teams.
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, Git, Jira, and modern software development workflows.
* Experience with hardware/software integration, laboratories, simulators, testbeds, or system integration and test.
* Experience managing software releases and coordinating dependencies across multiple engineering teams.
* Familiarity with software development standards and processes used in aerospace or mission-critical systems.
* Experience presenting technical status, metrics, risks, and recommendations to customers or senior leadership.
* Previous technical lead, product owner, scrum lead, CAM, or engineering management experience.
* Active Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI security clearance.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $135700.00 - $251900.00

For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
