Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Mid Level Electrical Engineer to assist the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division’s Naval Architecture and Engineering Department in achieving new or improved understanding in concepts and technology, fundamental and applied research of the marine environment, engineering and naval architecture, hydromechanics, maneuvering and control, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, modeling and simulation, test and evaluation, and training.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
Electrical and electronics engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacturing of electrical and electronic equipment, including communications systems, electric motors, machinery controls, lighting, and wiring in shipboard systems.
Electrical and electronics engineers specialize in different areas such as power generation, transmission, distribution, communications, and electrical equipment manufacturing. Electrical and electronics engineers design new products, write performance requirements, and develop maintenance schedules. They also test equipment, solve operating problems, and estimate the time and cost of engineering projects.
Successful candidates will demonstrate
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution in one of the following Engineering disciplines: Aerospace, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Marine (also known as “Ocean”), or Naval Architecture (also known as “Naval Engineering”). Electrical engineering degree preferred.
- Seven (7) years of full-time professional experience as an Electrical Engineer or Electronics Engineer
- Current Secret Clearance
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team under project deadlines.
- Experience supporting test and evaluation of maritime electrical and electronic systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include one or more of the following in support of watercraft engineering and marine services:
- Provide support and analysis in the areas of power generating systems, power distribution systems, automation and control systems (electrical and electronic), monitoring systems, navigation systems, load and fault current studies, hull machinery (electrical), lighting, communications., Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Combat, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems, and other electrical and electronic systems.
- Perform geometry, power generation, transmission and distribution, system wiring and control calculations, design, and analysis considering the properties of the equipment’s materials and fasteners, and taking into account how the equipment interfaces and operates with hull forms, propulsors, electrical equipment, and electromechanical equipment.
- Document changes to electrical parts and systems.
