Summary:
The facility planning & system analysis engineer will be responsible for technical support of multiple departments within the Energy Transfer organization. The candidate will provide critical functions such as reviewing and approving transportation capacity requests from the commercial team and developing facility scopes and costs required for system expansions. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about advancing their career through interaction with numerous departments both within and outside the organization, and seeks to gain comprehensive knowledge of pipeline system operations and facility expansions, as well as the technical, regulatory and commercial drivers that impact these activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides technical analysis of pipeline operations by using pipeline hydraulic models to assist in ongoing system operations, planning, resolution to operational problems and development and maintenance of pipeline models to support gas operations activities.
- Uses conceptual thinking and possesses the ability to thoroughly analyze and evaluate complex data sets and effectively communicate sound conclusions and concepts to business users.
- Develop and maintain static and transient hydraulic pipeline models to support gas control, operations, facility optimization, and growth capital activities.
- Perform the pipeline simulation modeling activities related to Panhandle, Trunkline, Stingray, Sea Robin and Rover gas pipeline systems.
- Identify the scope of facilities for business development projects and work with operations and/or engineering to prepare cost estimates.
- Performs calculations to verify appropriate sizing of existing pipeline facilities and provides recommendations for facility upgrades if needed.
- Review and approve requests for new transportation capacity and renewals of existing transportation capacity submitted by the Commercial group.
- Evaluates and recommends system configurations based on current and projected gas flows with the goal being to minimize fuel, satisfy commercial objectives, and O&M expenses while maximizing throughput across the system. This would include working with the optimization desk in marketing to maximize daily commercial opportunities.
- Coordinates with internal groups including Commercial, Regulatory, Operations, Legal, Engineering, Measurement and SCADA, and provides technical support as needed.
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Chemical Engineering and 3-10 years of operational / technical experience in gas pipeline design and/or operations.
- Knowledge of pipeline engineering principles and practices, facility construction and cost estimating.
- Strong communication and project management skills with ability to prepare clear, concise and complete written reports.
- Experience designing pipeline systems using simulation software (Gregg Engineering, ProMax, HYSYS, and/or Pipeline Studio).
- Strong analytical skills, including ability to recognize, analyze and recommend alternative solutions to problems and issues.
- Expert level knowledge of MS Office products
Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:
- The Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 3-6 years of relevant job related experience
- The Senior Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering disciplineand 6-10 years of relevant job related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Broad knowledge of company functions a plus (Regulatory, Financial, Marketing, Market Services, Operations, Engineering and Construction, Gas Control).
- Understanding of BI and/or data analytics and use of visualization/reporting software (Power BI, Tableau)
- Adept working knowledge of Gregg Engineering’s simulation software suite (WinFlow/WinTran/NextGen).

- Normal office working conditions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment will occur.
