SPA’s Sea Land Air (SLA) Division supports a diverse portfolio of national security government clients, including the Undersea Enterprise, the Navy Surface Community, the Navy MPTE Enterprise, the Air Force, Army, DoD Agencies, DARPA, international clients including the Canadian Navy and Australian Defense Force. Our primary objective is to provide timely, objective and analytic assessments that integrate the policy, operational, technical, programmatic and acquisition aspects of our clients’ challenges. Leveraging both in-domain and cross-domain expertise to maximize our clients’ success, SLA Division acts as trusted agents to senior decision-makers and key leaders and excels at providing data driven analytic insights, systems engineering, strategies and plans that address current and emerging challenges to national security.
Within the SLA Division, the Undersea Technology Analysis Group (UTAG) supports the Navy and other government organizations with timely and objective capability assessments, technology evaluations, and strategic planning that integrate the technical, operational, programmatic, policy, and business aspects of undersea warfare (USW) and broader Navy issues.
SPA has an immediate or near-term need for a Junior Operations Research Analyst supporting a high-profile client organization, with strong academic or practical background focused on computer programming to model military operations scenarios.
Responsibilities:
The selected operations research analyst will work within a small team environment and collaborate on the development of thoroughly supported assessments for delivery to the client. The analyst will become proficient with proprietary software modeling tools and will use commercially available analysis tool-sets. The analyst will be an integral member of different project teams that execute military operations focused research and analysis. The analyst will maintain proactive engagement with project team leads and with other team members as new insights are gained that impact the trajectory of the overarching assessment. The analyst will apply strong programming and modeling skills to explore various hypotheses and will help compile results into slides and written products highlighting insights and implications client consideration. The selected analyst will apply critical and creative thinking to set up appropriate models. Much of this work will be conducted in a classified environment, so there are only limited opportunities for remote work.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field that includes substantial experience in programming or computer modeling. Enjoys working in a programing environment to set up computer models. (Candidate will be trained on the specific programming/modeling tool used at SPA, but prior proficiency with other programing languages like Python, Java, C, or R is essential.)
- Ability to conduct research and apply computer models to reach defensible conclusions, to develop concise, well-written analytic products that inform decision making, and to present analytic results.
- Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic, time-management, and interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently as well as an effective contributor to a team.
- Proven ability to use Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, to perform data analysis and communicate to decision makers
- Active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to maintain both throughout employment
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with Navy Undersea Warfare Systems, submarine, or other undersea related programs.
- Familiarity with using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze and display information.
