Head Consultant – Technical Safety & Environmental
We are seeking a Head Consultant to work as part of the KBR Consulting International team. Successful candidates will be key members of the team providing consulting services and contributing to business development activities across all engineering and chemical sectors (including oil & gas, LNG, refining, petrochemical, fine chemicals, hydrogen, ammonia and CCUS sectors).
KBR Consulting has offices in four main operating centres (Houston, Leatherhead, Abu Dhabi and Singapore).
KBR Consulting International covers KBR’s Consulting business globally outside of the Americas. The Head Technical Safety & Environmental Consultant will report to the Director of KBR Consulting International (who is based in Leatherhead, UK). The successful candidate will be based in Consulting International’s main office in Leatherhead (UK).
The candidate will have the following primary responsibilities:
- Growing KBR Consulting’s project portfolio and revenue in Technical Safety and Environmental consultancy services.
- Interfacing with clients.
- Creating compelling value-added propositions which convert into successful proposal submissions.
- Oversight of the delivery of Technical Safety and Environmental studies from pre-feasibility through to Pre-FEED, assuring technical quality with on-time and budget delivery.
- Interfacing with other parts of the KBR organisation to grow incremental revenue from existing projects.
- Providing technical and commercial inputs and oversight; and
- Developing Consulting capacity and capability in the Technical Safety and Environmental sector through recruitment and development of Consulting team members.
- Acting as a Subject Matter Expert within Technical Safety and the Environment team.
The candidate should have excellent organizational skills and be good at communicating and guiding others. They may be required to work projects, thereby necessitating excellent ability to multi-task, work without supervision, exercise good judgment and communicate with colleagues in the wider KBR organisation.
Requirement & Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to have a relevant number of years of industry experience with a technical and / or commercial focus on Safety and Environmental engineering. As a minimum, educated to degree level and holding an appropriate technical chartership.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate depth of experience and knowledge in a number of the following service areas:
- Technical Safety consultancy.
- Environmental consultancy.
- Existing and emerging legislation relating to safety and environmental compliance for the energy and chemicals sector and particularly for new emerging low carbon solutions.
- Industry competitiveness/awareness.
- Feasibility and configuration studies.
- Process design.
- Process operations and improvements.
- Project execution strategies; and
- Direct sales experience and ability to develop strong client and industry trusted relationships that enable strong negotiations and partnerships.
The candidate should also
- Be a senior professional with strong personal drive and credibility with both internal and external stakeholders in the Technical Safety & Environmental sector.
- Be a high energy individual with a desire to make a difference and offer direction to the consulting Technical Safety & Environmental business and provide suggestions for improvement & recommendations.
- Be able to undertake and support business development. May serve as a proposal manager on large pursuits, gaining executive approvals where required, through to final contractual negotiations.
- Be able to project manage Consultancy projects. May execute some projects as project manager and so must be flexible and able to adapt to changing project-related priorities and deliver high quality, accurate work within required deadlines.
- Manage successful execution and conclusion of Technical Safety & Environmental projects executed for KBR Consulting International.
- Participate in cross fertilisation of work between KBR departments and developing a ‘OneKBR’ approach to execute projects.
- Develop and maintaining customer relationships, ensuring customer satisfaction at project level and resolving any issues.
- Liaise with the Consulting Director to ensure the projects are adequately resourced.
- Review project obligations and ensuring management of change including variation orders.
- Feedback and review of project managers to ensure they are adequately supported and developing their skills.
- Develop of project close out aspects including knowledge sharing, lessons learned and project case study preparation for marketing materials.
- Manage risks to avoid delays or reputational damage.
- Oversee project managers, to ensure that work is completed on time and within budget, to a high standard.
- Train, develop and mentor the next generation of the Consulting Technical Safety & Environmental team.
- Have existing client relationships in their respective areas of expertise.
- Be able to travel for business trips on short notice:
- Be fluent in spoken and written English. Additional languages are a plus.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
- Able to work within a ‘sell-do’ model.
- Being a strong self-starter and motivated to succeed.
- Providing practical front-end consulting – including scoping, selling and delivery.
- Having excellent communication skills including ability to produce concise reports and presentations appropriate for all levels.
- Having confidence to work at all levels of a client organisation (Board to Technician).
- The desire to expand role and be adaptable to client’s needs.
- Being able to contribute to preparation of proposals, execution plans and budgets.
- Identifying new opportunities and leads.
- Supporting a continuous improvement culture and identifies gaps, develops work processes, tools and methodologies to drive productivity and growth.
- Leading the capture of significant opportunities including developing an overall win strategy, shaping deals with customers, developing team strategies, and assisting in developing a winning price strategy.
- An ability to collaborate across organisational boundaries together with working with geographically dispersed teams; and
- Knowledge of competitors and ability to support modelling of competitor behaviour in the market.
