Program Overview
The BD Software Development Program (SDP) is designed to give new Computer Science/Computer Engineering graduates an opportunity to spend the first three years of their career rotating through different BD businesses and locations in the US. Each year long rotation will expose the SDP to software solutions, processes and marketplaces while expanding their BD network with each successive rotation. Following the completion of the program, SDP’s progress into a full-time position in one of the BD businesses based on their interests and business needs.

- Ashland, OR
- Franklin Lakes, NJ
- Louisville, CO
- Covington, GA
Job Description
An SDP is a forward-looking person who is self-directed requiring minimal daily direction, presents a positive and professional demeanor, and is willing to learn about the BD medical device instrumentation and applications.
A successful candidate will work under the supervision of the software project team lead and other software engineers to develop software components and applications for medical instrumentation. They work to design, develop, and test software and hands-on implementation of well-documented, testable, high-quality code. An SDP will also collaborate with stakeholders, analysts, scientists, and systems, electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to understand product requirements and realize them in software. The development of detailed software architecture and design documents while following medical device regulations and quality processes is also among the day-to-day responsibilities. Participation in design reviews and code inspections, providing clear, actionable feedback is expected as is providing regular status updates and participating in all scrum activities.
Qualifications:
- New graduates with a BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline is required
- Expected Graduation date between July 2024 and June 2025
- Excellent academic record
- Relevant internship or co-op experience
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to relocate annually during the three-year program
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction as to duration
Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrated positive work ethic with a strong commitment to achieving project goals
- Demonstrated interest and experience in the med tech industry
- Experience or coursework in relational database design and access is desirable
- Experience in designing and implementing complex data structures and algorithms, with a focus on process efficiency is a plus
- Direct technical experience in software engineering is preferred
- Experience developing in a team environment is a plus
- Strong technical documentation skills are a plus
