Treyarch is looking for a Principal Level Designer to help us build realistic, well-crafted maps that tell stories, make our game systems shine, and most importantly, are fun to play.
What you’ll do…
- Work with leadership and teams across all our game modes to deliver fun and compelling map designs.
- Grow in your craft and develop deeper specializations as you collaborate with industry veterans across multiple teams to design fun, realistic, and great looking spaces that embody our creative vision.
- Be trusted to identify and drive solutions to major challenges both forward looking and as they arise.
- Own special design initiatives that benefit the entire level design department including championing education and design process improvements.
- Take on specific tasks in areas of need to help teams meet deadlines.
- Guide and mentor other designers.
- Take on periodic leadership roles in your areas of expertise.
- Refine designs and other projects based on team-wide feedback. Every voice matters.
- Contribute to the overall success of the team through the development of documentation, standard methodologies, and design techniques.
- Seize opportunities to educate less experienced designers as we all improve together.
To succeed you should have...
- 10+ years of proven experience in AAA level design.
- The ability to contribute directly to the game while also providing leadership on content and to team members.
- Strong spatial abilities.
- Ability to implement design concepts such as level flow, engagement design, and pacing.
- Ability to navigate an iterative and creatively fluid development environment.
- Clear and proactive communication skills.
- Proficiency with one or more 3D level/world creation packages.
- Ability to tackle abstract problems across the product and franchise with little to no oversight.

- Experience with the Radiant level editor
- Experience crafting arena-style multiplayer spaces
- Experience crafting spaces for AI
- Experience crafting large-scale multiplayer spaces
- Experience sculpting realistic terrain.
- Scripting experience
- A passion for developing a robust and enjoyable design culture.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $134,000.00 - $247,900.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
