We are seeking an Operations Research Analyst I to provide analytical support to United States Air Force (USAF) organizations. In this role, the analyst will evaluate actual and anticipated operational activities to develop quantitative, data-driven insights that support decision-making across military operations, planning efforts, programs, exercises, and strategic initiatives. The analyst will apply established operations research methodologies, scientific principles, and quantitative techniques to assess complex operational challenges and support mission effectiveness.
The Operations Research Analyst I will participate in analytical studies, modeling and simulation activities, operational assessments, and training support efforts. Working under general supervision, the analyst will contribute technical expertise in data analysis, mathematical modeling, statistical evaluation, and decision support methodologies while supporting larger analytical teams and program objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The contractor shall provide analytical and technical support to USAF operational, strategic, and business functions. Core duties include:
- Operations Analysis Support: Analyze actual and forecasted operational activities, processes, and systems to develop quantitative assessments that support informed decision-making and mission planning.
- Analytical Study Participation: Assist in planning, scheduling, coordinating, and executing selected phases of analytical studies, operational assessments, training, and evaluation activities.
- Modeling and Simulation: Support the development, execution, and refinement of analytical models, simulations, and gaming tools used to evaluate military capabilities, operational concepts, and resource allocation decisions.
- Quantitative Analysis: Apply mathematical, statistical, engineering, economic, and operations research techniques, including probability theory, linear programming, optimization methods, decision analysis, and game theory to evaluate complex problems.
- Data Collection and Assessment: Gather, organize, validate, and analyze operational and programmatic data to identify trends, measure performance, and support analytical conclusions.
- Decision Support Development: Produce analytical reports, presentations, briefings, and recommendations that clearly communicate findings, assumptions, risks, and alternative courses of action to USAF leadership and stakeholders.
- Technical Problem Solving: Assist in developing solutions to moderately complex operational and analytical challenges requiring creativity, critical thinking, and technical expertise.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with government personnel, operational subject matter experts, engineers, analysts, and program teams to ensure analytical efforts accurately address mission requirements.
- Methodology Improvement: Support the development and refinement of analytical methodologies, measurement approaches, and assessment techniques that improve the quality and effectiveness of operational analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Economics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Analytical Expertise: Working knowledge of operations research principles and quantitative analytical methods.
- Technical Skills: Experience applying mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze data and support decision-making.
- Modeling and Simulation Knowledge: Familiarity with analytical models, simulations, database applications, or decision-support tools.
- Communication Skills: Ability to develop technical reports, presentations, and briefings that clearly communicate analytical findings and recommendations.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex issues, identify key variables, and develop logical, data-driven solutions.
- Software Proficiency: Experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as statistical or analytical software packages.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting United States Air Force operational, testing, acquisition, logistics, training, or planning organizations.
- Experience with modeling and simulation tools, analytical software, data visualization platforms, or programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with military operations analysis, campaign analysis, force structure assessments, or resource optimization studies.
- Experience supporting operational exercises, training events, mission analysis, or capability assessments.
- Knowledge of Department of Defense analytical processes, operational planning frameworks, and quantitative decision-support methodologies.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment supporting federal or defense-related programs.
