Position Overview
We are looking for several strong Engineering Project Managers/Engineering Managers to lead technical designs for Industrial EPC, design/Build projects. Our Industrial market has expanded over the last 5 years in terms of new clients, and new scopes of work into advanced technologies, including Data Centers, and Semiconductors. Our Engineering Project Managers report to the Executive VP of our Industrial business and focus on developing design solutions hat seamlessly transition from design plans to completed projects that exceed client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.

As Engineering Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the project design through the final construction stages, managing and inspiring a team of committed and engaged - engineers and designers. You will interface with construction, estimating and scheduling on a regular basis to drive the project forward. By driving communication, providing technical expertise and establishing project goals, you’ll help push the team to its greatest potential with a relentless passion for improvement, while delivering project success through scope, schedule and budget. District Overview
Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Advanced Technologies (Data Centers, Semiconductors, EV Battery), Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Bioprocessing and Chemical processing, Water, and Wastewater treatment.
Location
The role will be located in our Lenexa Kansas (Kansas City) office. Remote locations may be considered that are near other Kiewit major offices but with 50% travel to Lenexa Kansas required.
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-disciplined team of engineers/designers to execute FEED, D/B and EPC projects in Industrial market areas. Develop the team vision, identify priorities to ensure those align with operational goals.
- Build discipline-specific strategies and objectives for talent management, technology, quality management and risk management.
- Manage the scope, budget, and schedule of projects you are assigned to, inclusive of executing fair change management.
- Foster high performing teams and behavior to execute projects.
- Work to fully comprehend the business, industry and changing marketplace the organization resides in; working with Engineering Department Managers, align discipline personnel to meet changing business requirements.
- Ability to mentor and develop team members maintaining the “train your replacement" mentality.
- Work with Engineering Department Managers to effectively manage underperforming project team members.
- Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, the quality of the work product, and operating efficiencies.
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate operating risks inherent in the business that could materially impact the company’s reputation and/or operating results.
- Identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and a means to manage KPI tracking and reporting.
- Stay up to date with the latest technology and industry practices and finds practical applications and identify wants to leverage current and new technology on the project.
- Develop and execute a communications plan, ensuring project team members are informed of strategy, shared goals, policies, practices and programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management (or similar field) from an accredited program is required
- 10+ years of experience in increasingly challenging positions in roles as an Engineering Project Manager or Engineering Manager or similar role. Strong design knowledge for complex industrial projects is required, with the ability and experience managing technical/engineering resources is required
- Must have a minimum of 5+ years of engineering project management/leadership experience, managing EPC projects for Industrial projects. (Open to any market area which could include Water/Wastewater, Industrial Power, OGC, Chemical Processing, Bioprocessing, Advanced manufacturing)
- Background in Engineering and/or project management Must have strong negotiation, presentation and persuasion skills. Experienced in communicating ideas, winning approval, and reaching resolutions with a variety of audiences
- Ability to manage projects and progress ideas to execution in a complex environment; able to guide technical teams to solve complex design problems.
- Strong analytical ability along with the capacity to interpret data and make recommendations
- Comfortable with change and ambiguity; adaptable, collaborative and a systems thinker
- Proficient in interpreting and providing direction on project controls and scheduling
