Job Description
The Veolia North America SkillBridge Program is an approved program under the Department of Defense Instruction ("DoDI") 1322.29 as an opportunity for service members preparing for civilian careers to gain valuable civilian work experience during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Veolia Group while on active duty and continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. Eligible Applicants must have written command approval to participate.
The Maintenance Technician I inspects, maintains, repairs and installs mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic equipment at plant and/or pump stations. Operates centrifuge machine, sewer cleaning jet/vac equipment and performs maintenance and operational tasks with minimum oversight.
In this role you will learn preventive maintenance work orders, how to operate the centrifuge, and sewer cleaning and effluent filter cleaning. The Maintenance Technician I will also perform lift station checks and all necessary lift station repairs, perform sewer cleaning in the collection system in order to meet contract footage (100,000 ft/yr.) and drive a dump truck and vactor.
Qualifications
- Served at least 180 continuous days on active duty
- Within 12 months of separation or retirement from the military
- Able to start within 180 days prior to their separation or retirement from active military service.
- High school or GED with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally (operational, process, safety and quality instructions) and be able to carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Must possess a valid driver's license (commercial license class B with air brakes & tanker endorsement) and a safe driving record. Or be able to obtain the License within 1 year.
- Ability to drive and operate 10 ton Dump truck & Sewer jet truck.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Some vocational training and mechanical aptitude required, with the ability to read, interpret and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.
- Two to five years’ experience in a related position in a similar environment with ability to comprehend complex specifications, blueprints and manuals.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.)
- Must consistently demonstrate the ability to perform all assigned tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
- Must demonstrate ability to efficiently maintain, install and repair a variety of equipment which may include pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed and odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters and belt presses.
- Must demonstrate ability to use precision measuring devices, testing equipment and shop tools such as drill press, band saw, bench grinder, and torque wrench.
- Must demonstrate the ability to inspect and diagnose process problems in multiple unit processes, troubleshoot mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic equipment and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
- Must demonstrate ability to accurately estimate time and material costs for assigned projects.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
- Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
