Design Engineer
Mossville, IL
Role Summary:
The MG Drivetrain Systems Team, part of Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division (LPSD), is seeking an innovative, self-starting, and motivated engineer to join our team as a Design Engineer. You will have the opportunity to help our customers build a better world by being responsible for the development, integration, validation, and maintenance of the lower powertrain system used across entire MG product line. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across Caterpillar to design and develop these MG lower powertrain systems that will deliver differentiation and superior performance for our customers.
What you will do (includes but not limited to):
- Be responsible for designing and validating the lower powertrain system that meets the requirements for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
- Be responsible for implementing improvements to current designs by using the Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) process.
- Continually to learn and stay abreast of innovative technology in drivetrains not only in lower powertrain but also be exposed to upper powertrain systems as well.
- Oversee the development of lower powertrain systems that will meet and exceed the product groups expectations for quality, cost, and time to market.
Education Requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Technical Excellence: Level Working Knowledge
Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Level Extensive Experience
Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
Product Design - MFG: Level Extensive Experience
Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
Product Design and Development: Level Working Knowledge
Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
Top Candidates will also have:
- On machine or lab testing experience with transmission or axle systems
- Product support or field experience with customer interface
- Professional work experience supporting drivetrain components such as transmissions, axles, engines, wheel and brake systems, and/or other rotating mechanical systems.
- Formal training in Six Sigma, Lean, or other engineering process improvement programs

- This position is located in Mossville, IL at the Technical Center, building G
- This position may require up to 10% travel.
