Job Summary
Manages the construction of a safe, maintainable, and reliable railroad infrastructure including track, bridges, culverts, tunnels, etc. that serves to protect and safeguard CSX Transportation's (CSXT) current and future operations. Responsible for approximately 1 - 15 complex project(s) per year with minimal guidance. Coordinates outside party projects with consultants and departments of transportation as assigned. Scope of project(s) valuing approximately $15-25 million annually.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
- Work with various groups within CSX (Public Projects, Maintenance of Way, Bridge & Tunnel, Communications & Signal, Environmental, Properties Services, etc.) and with other entities outside of CSX Transportation (General Engineering Consultants, State DOT's, etc.) to develop overall construction plan and in service plan for Infrastructure Projects.
- Provide construction management support to project work teams (CSX Maintenance of Way, CSX Signal Construction, Civil Engineering & Track Contractors, and others) to execute the construction of railroad infrastructure projects (Industrial Development, Coal Development, etc.).
- Assist with the development of Project Budgets and manage the budgets to construct the Infrastructure Projects.
- Review and approve invoices and contractor expenses associated with Infrastructure Projects.
- Prepare and present project status reports using Project Management Tools on a regular basis to monitor project construction status.
- Perform or participate in Project Quality Assurance Reviews with internal and external work teams.
- Conduct weekly and monthly Safety Observations. Participate in CSX Design & Construction Quarterly Meetings and Safety Overlap Meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 1 or more years of experience in Construction Engineering
- 1 or more years of supervisory experience in 1 or more years of supervisory experience required in leading or managing Construction of Infrastructure Projects (Civil & Track / Bridge & Tunnels)
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree/2-year Degree
- 3 or more years of experience in Construction Engineering
- 3 or more years of supervisory experience in 3 or more years of supervisory experience required in leading or managing Construction of Infrastructure Projects (Civil & Track / Bridge & Tunnels)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
- 3 or more years of experience in Construction Engineering
- 3 or more years of supervisory experience in 3 or more years of supervisory experience in leading or managing Railroad Construction projects
- Professional Engineer (PE)
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of civil engineering including construction methods, surveying, design, estimating, and forecasting
- Ability to create, read, and understand design drawings and specifications
- Project management skills including scheduling software
- Computer-aided design (CAD) skills such as AutoCAD and / or MicroStation
- Knowledge of various computer systems i.e., ORACLE
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership, employees, vendors, and contractors
- Knowledge of state, local, and federal laws/regulations pertaining to building standards
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills to include Word, Excel, Outlook
