PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Bankruptcy Specialist at our Alexandria, Virginia service center. The primary purpose of this job is to prepare and process all incoming bankruptcy notices, coordinating action with debtors, trustees and attorneys on secured and non-secured loans in order to determine appropriate action to include negotiate reaffirmation of debt or retaking or surrender of collateral.
Responsibilities

Monitor bankrupt member accounts, coordinating with attorneys and trustees on the status of cases as necessary.
Keep manager and attorneys in the Office of General Counsel informed of any adversarial situations as they develop so that PenFed can obtain legal representation to protect its interests.
Research, recommend and prepare accounts for charge-off.
Communicate with outside counsel to secure reaffirmation agreements, repossession of collateral and other appropriate action.
Complete transaction vouchers to ensure proper posting of payment received from bankruptcy trustee.
Prepare all necessary forms and paperwork for the filing of reaffirmations, proofs of claim, and other bankruptcy court documentation as well as provide outside counsel with forms, paperwork, and other assistance for filing motions, adversary proceedings and other pleadings and court actions.
Respond to incoming telephone calls and correspondence, regarding bankruptcy problems, from bankrupt members, attorneys, trustees and other departments within the credit union.
Enter bankrupt accounts into the system for complete follow up including setting up accounts on the online collection system queue.
Terminate lines of credit on bankrupt members' TCS, credit cards and other products offered by PenFed.
Prepare monthly bankruptcy reports and compiles other bankruptcy statistics as requested.
Maintain files and paperwork for bankruptcy accounts, ensuring the accuracy of bankruptcy records.
Code accounts as bankrupt.
Order appropriate documents from PenFed Member Records and the bankruptcy courts in order to take action as appropriate.
Assist with special projects as necessary.
Qualifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
Associates Degree in related field or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience required, preferably in a bankruptcy department or as a legal assistant.
Strong oral and written communication skills required.
Experience with PCs and automated systems required.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
Travel
Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
