The Retail Engineering Manager is responsible to bring best-in-class knowledge operating and maintaining mechanical equipment, and buildings on across Schwab facilities. The Engineering Manager assists developing the go forward strategy for the Critical Engineering portfolio and works with vendors, and other engineering staff to ensure a well maintained, safe and productive environment for Schwab employees and customers. The Engineering Manager has strong communication skills and typically works across ALL of Schwab Retail facilities to ensure the strategy is being executed in a consistent manner and are the gatekeepers and stewards of our Critical Environments and systems.
This opportunity is located onsite at our DFW Headquarters in Westlake, Texas.
- The Engineering Manager will have MEP responsibilities for all US retail locations but will use their experience, communication skills and technical ability to spread influence across additional locations in the portfolio.
- You will be Trusted and proven in the operation of Retail Facilities and infrastructure and trusted partner to our Property Management team.
- Responsible for ensuring the HVAC standards and advanced maintenance techniques are implemented across the Retail portfolio.
- Responsible to perform routine and advanced HVAC adjustments locally ( hands on) or using BAS software to solve environmental comfort and mechanical calibrations.
- Strong Knowledge in Rooftop Unit Operations, Calibrations and Balancing is a must. Ability to Diagnose issues on these systems remotely using Schwab’s national Vendor to access the situation locally.
- Position will own the relationship with Schwab’s National Vendor ensure all areas of the contract are being performed accurately, on-time and within the cost structure.
- Performs work order administration ensuring accurate and timely information, photos and file attachments are made by Schwab’s national vendor using the company provided CMMS system.
- Audits and Ensures all Workorder data is entered allowing prompt and precise payments to our vendors.
- Actively participates in incident responses that are escalated to you by the local property team.
- Position may travel from time to time to our Retail locations to analyze issues and determine a path to issue resolution.
- Responsible to work side by side with vendor partners during planned maintenance, or break-fix in an observer role or active participant to ensure the repair is the correct option and ensure all repairs are done correctly.
- Responsible to ensure all Preventative Maintenance performed by the vendor partner are performed correctly.
- Expected to pass competency-based Certifications as defined in the Critical Environments Training requirements.
- Completes required safety and compliance training.
- Reports to the Managing Director of Critical Environments.
Supervisory Duties
Direct and/or Indirect Supervision of Schwab Contractors.
What you have

Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Technical HVAC Degree Required from an Accredited Trade School or a Mechanical Engineering Degree or a minimum of 15 years of related experience preferably working in the Retail HVAC Service Industry from technician level to a current management role.
- Universal CFC certification
- Communication Skills
- Must have ability to communicate and work with Schwab Local Property Managers on technical issues and resolutions.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and email inquiries. Ability to write routine correspondence, log-notes, and status updates in work order systems. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from co-workers or supervisors. Good phone etiquette and the ability to ask questions to seek understanding of problems and conflict resolution.
- Reasoning & Judgement
- Ability to solve complex problems and handle a variety of options in varying situations while maintaining composure and professionalism. Draws upon the opinions and diversity of others before making recommendations that have a direct impact on the company. Normally understands own limitations and frequently seeks guidance on matters to minimize risk and thought validation.
- Other Skills & Abilities
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated knowledge of CMMS and other standard automation normally used in modern business settings to include mobile device technology. Experienced using small, elevated lifts and ladders for high work. Must understand electrical distribution and be able to interpret one-line drawings. Demonstrated knowledge of sequence of operations of critical equipment such as generators, transfer switches and UPS systems. Comfortable multi-tasking, staying calm under pressure and understands what results are expected and the priority of the results. Has the ability to work periodic overtime or participate in after-hours call out duty.
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in a commercial building environment where space and movement may be limited.
- 20-30% Travel to other sites will be required to support the needs of the business with possible overnight stays occasionally including weekends based on needs of the business.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree with Mechanical Engineering or Building Science
- Electrical and or Mechanical license
- Certifications or completed degree programs from accredited trade schools, or Mechanical vendors such as York or Trane preferred.
- Strong Desire to continue their education also considered a plus.
